This is true. Fans bitched about not trading CJ on draft night when teams were most focused on the draft. Then they bitched on the first day of free agency when most teams' focus was on...... free agency. Philly is obviously in no rush to move Simmons unless they get every unrealistic asset they are asking for. At some point, their demand will come down. And contrary to what anyone says, fans don't know shit how Neil values CJ, other than he likes him. The question is how much does Morey value him.
Quick said this yesterday, but I think he is just assuming because all of the "one year-deals" without a number attached are just assumed to be vet mins.
I'm still really hoping we'll get a certain someone from the most famous Trust The Process era in recent league history.
I'm okay with this. CJ is literally our only asset unless we're rebuilding and trading Dame. (Okay, we have Nurk and RoCo which other teams would like, but Centers aren't really wanted any more, and besides, both of those are of interest to competing teams, and they will want to "win the deal" too.) It does nobody any good to sell him short.
Not a motherfucking hint of urgency from Neil in this off season so far but we've still got a couple months.
Green was VERY important to the Sixers last season. Losing him would knock them out of contention, IMO.
let me ask you this: after everything that happened with Portland in the playoffs, and how Dame reacted to it, did you think that it was OK (from Dame's perspective) for Olshey to just run it back this season with the same core and starters and count on Billups to prove Olshey right about the roster not being the problem? and yeah, blah blah blah it's only the first 24 hours of free agency etc.. We all know that. But, it's logical to look at the Zeller and McLemore additions with Olshey's history and see another rinse/repeat on the way....no? I mean, do you truly believe there's a decent chance anything will happen between now and the trade deadline that will change the starters from the Dame-CJ-Powell-RoCo-Nurkic lineup that got beat by Denver? And do you believe that Dame was thinking about the bench when he said the roster wasn't good enough?
Stand back and look at how many huge trades have taken place so far, not many. Where is the big trade for Philly, Knicks, Toronto, even Dallas? More trade action to come and we do have assets so I guess anything is possible.
Not even the threat of a trade demand from the best player in franchise history could knock Neil Olshey off his high horse.
If Zeller's just a vet min, and if SA wanted DJJ, we could theoretically S&T for DD for close to $15M and still be under the hard cap. They won't, but they could.
what Portland trade assets, that beat other team's assets, do you see Portland having if CJ is essentially off the table? and I'm sorry, I will not get on board this "trust that Olshey will make a bigger trade in his 10th season than he has in the previous 9" narrative that seems to be taking root around here
I've said as much. I've got competing thoughts. One is patient because there's time before training camp and then until the trade deadline. The other is impatient because Neil has never made a blockbuster trade and I just don't trust him to do what it takes to keep Dame. Dame's mantra seems to be urgency so the clock is ticking.
DeRozan on a 15 mil deal and Norm on a 18 mil deal would both be tradeable, not to mention Roco/Nurk on 12 mil expirings.
