Wow, I would have been all over this for a second round pick. Got to imagine the Warriors have their TPMLE target ready since all this move does is clear a roster spot.
Question - how would a sign-and-trade work with Kawhi? ** *I don't need someone to tell me he isn't coming here *Yes, BRoy I know about the hard cap. Is there any scenario where it could be worked out?
Dennis Schroeder for the TPMLE…. His options are drying up. He’s a good backup (who thinks he’s a max player)
I think they were at 14 guaranteed spots without this deal. I think this just opens up a roster spot for an incoming FA signing. Or maybe two players incoming in a deal, who knows. But it's pretty clear this was just done to clear a roster spot.
Also btw, our Ariza Trade Exception for 666k expires on the 6th. We also have another TPE from the Trent-Powell trade for 1.66 mil that expires in Feb, 2022. It appears we can combine the two for a TPE of ~2.3 mil to be used in the next two days.
We actually had this discussion awhile back, but we can trade CJ + DJJ + however many picks, take back Kawhi at a max deal, and sign enough vet mins to be just under the hard cap.
Of course. If we traded them CJ and DJJ it would bring back Kawhi. We would then be hard capped and have to sign Brown to his deal and then sign one more vet min contract to be at the 13 player roster minimum... we would still have room under the apron. Kawhi's salary would be the exact same as Dame's. Dame, Powell, Kawhi, RoCo, Nurk, Ant, Nas, Zeller, Snell for now but hopefully we'd get a PF with that last vet min.
I just read about it: as long as they go back in the same transaction, yes. Caught me by surprise, tbh. I thought you couldn't do that. https://cbabreakdown.com/salary-cap-exceptions Of all the exceptions, only the Traded Player Exception can be added together to acquire players in a simultaneous transaction (i.e., the same transaction).
Re: TPMLE The meltdown crew: Olshey is just trying to stay as close to the tax line as possible so he can get out of the tax mid-season if Dame asks for a trade at the trade deadline. The eternal optimist: We can't use it because we're getting Kawhi in a S&T. We're strategically only signing minimums because we are hard-capped after getting Kawhi.
here’s the thing about kawhi: he’s all business. If he were given the option of playing with either Paul George or Damian Lillard, I think he would choose Dame, just like 99% of the league’s non point guard stars.
No because you want to keep Covington if you are doing this trade and move him to SF. Unless you think Little is ready to make the leap to starter? I could see that actually, but I'd have to be pretty sure.
