Just rewatched Inherit the Wind. Will we have new Scopes Monkey Trial, this time for teaching history rather than biology?

How are kids going to be able to understand CRT if they can’t even read?

Agreed..... I was honestly shocked when they gave the white kids the nice new books every year and they gave the minority kids the books from the 70s.

From your sarcasm, I take it that you do agree that cultural bias would be reason to abandon the standards but can't bring yourself to actually say it.

The only bias I ever saw first hand was the open contempt for all things conservative.

Right, but one person's experience isn't really a great metric. As I said, I don't know if there actually is any cultural bias that harms the prospects of minority students, but if there is, that would be a good reason to ditch the existing standards.

How do you even prove it?

Don't get me wrong, our education system is horrible and needs to be trashed regardless..... but I really don't think it's because it's culturally biased.

There would need to be a lot of study done, seeing how different groups perform (over large numbers of people over a lot of years) with other variables (like socioeconomic circumstances) controlled for. I'm sure other things would need to go into it--I'm not qualified to design such studies, but I'm sure you can get data that provides evidence for and against.

There are valid criticisms of critical race theory by actual scholars but impossible to debate merits of an idea if states ban talking about it.

Wait until you find out that private schools don't actually have to meet any kind of normalized standard for teaching, and tend to be religious in nature.

I learned that the hard way... I went to a private school for a little bit in SW and it ended up being low key Scientologist.

Haven't we put this thing to bed yet? Of course we should teach history as it happened and not the fairy tale version.

If by "conservative" you mean anti-science, pro-establishment, then yeah. I really do hate that.

So cliche. You want to know how many Republicans I know who are anti-science? None.

Then I likely don't have a problem with them. Simple as that.
