At this point, is there anyone worth blowing the TPMLE on, or is it better to hang onto it to use after the deadline when teams that miss the playoffs buyout/waive vets on ending contracts. Seems like the latter would be more likely to net an impact player since the Blazers could offer more money.
Nope! Mediocre city. But i think Detroit should have signed him. Then you would have both Cunningham & Felicio. With Oracle as the main sponsor.
I predicted him to be one of the two garbage signing Olshey would prop up as to convince Dame this summer. Tony Snell was the other I suggested, who was signed indeed, lmao.
It's probably room they're going to save until later. The FAs I like which are still available are Shaq Harrison, Millsap, E'Twann Moore, Ntilikina, Luke Kornet, Isaac Bonga, Mike James, and Garrison Matthews. All of them would be welcome additions, be it for ballhandling, wing defense, post defense, floor stretching or whatever. You can play Shaq, Ntilikina, Moore, Bonga, James, Matthews all next to Dame, and it would help him and the team. Millsap could be really interesting, as long as he has enough left in the tank. Kornet has always been a bit underrated, but he's a stretch big man who can defend a bit as well. I especially don't think opposing teams would like to go up against a Mike James + Dame Lillard pairing. But. We're probably just re-signing the horrible TJ Leaf and bring in DJ wilson.
Um.... PAUL MILSAP!!!! Or Dante Exum! Or split it and take fliers on Isaac Bonga and Frank Nkilitina.
Pacers were able to coax the Spurs into decent sized TPE for McDermott. Why didn't we bother to do the same for Collins? Did we just let a former lottery pick WALK for nothing ? Spurs have also yet to announce anything about the signing.
i mean, i realize the Spurs had the space to sign Zach outright, but they coulda done the same with McDermott too. Pritchard was able to get something from that for Indy. Meanwhile, Olshey is completely apathetic towards his FAs leaving when our war chest is barren.
until yesterday around noon, Spotrac showed Zach's contract but listed it in Portland's pending column; and Zach didn't show up in the Spurs payroll. He's now on San Antonio's pending list I suppose it's still possible that Olshey is working to get that 5.4M TPE. One of the issues would have been the Spurs being hard-capped. But since they are already hard-capped (McDermott) that's irrelevant. The idea that Zach refused to sign with Portland, out of spite, doesn't seem credible. I suppose it's possible that somehow Olshey has pissed off Spurs management, but that's unlikely so, either Olshey dropped the ball and didn't even try or the Spurs were asking too much to give Portland that TPE. That 2nd option doesn't seem real credible either or, both teams are still working on it
Spotrac takes its information from tweets and announcements. It’s not an official tracker. They don’t have internal sources.
Pacers tweeted this out for McDermott yesterday. Spurs had this in their press release yesterday: SAN ANTONIO (Aug. 8, 2021) – The San Antonio Spurs today announced that they have acquired forward Doug McDermott, a 2023 protected second round pick and the right to swap 2026 second round picks with the Indiana Pacers in exchange for San Antonio’s 2023 protected second round pick. Per team policy, terms of the contract were not announced. Both Portland and San Antonio haven't made a peep about Zach. Could still be something in the works.
