I've been to all three and they are all great cities, but Tokyo is by far the best. Its just so damn big and endlessly fascinating. I think Tokyo needs a minimum of 5 or 6 days and would even be better with 10. Where Singapore and Hong Kong are 3 or 4 days cities max.
Good list, Heading to San Miguel in January for a few weeks. Mexico City is very underrated as a destination. Charleston and Savanah both live up to the hype. Even Bend made the list! https://www.prnewswire.com/news-rel...el--leisure-worlds-best-awards-301371434.html TRAVEL + LEISURE TOP 10 WORLD'S BEST CITIES 2021 San Miguel de Allende, Mexico Udaipur, India Istanbul, Turkey Ubud, Indonesia Kyoto, Japan Florence, Italy Mexico City, Mexico Oaxaca, Mexico Chiang Mai, Thailand Bangkok, Thailand TRAVEL + LEISURE TOP 10 U.S. CITIES 2021 Charleston, South Carolina Santa Fe, New Mexico Savannah, Georgia New Orleans, Louisiana New York City San Antonio, Texas Chicago, Illinois Bend, Oregon Williamsburg, Virginia Honolulu, Hawaii
Yeah, I wen to Tokyo in High School. Cool city. Its almost too overwhelming for a short trip though, if I did Japan, I'd want to go to Osaka / Kyoto and other things like those Moutain Ryokan retreats, etc. I kind of want to go to Hong Kong before China gets a bigger grip on it. I went a few years ago for like 2 days, and there are a few things I want to check out (1000 buddah monestary, parks, etc). Singapore is further down my list, doesn't seem like there's much to do there.
I hear that going to Osaka is like going to Detroit. It is a heavy industrialized city. I'd prefer Kyoto or Sapporo or maybe Fujisawa city.
Have you considered Bangkok? Its another major hub in the area to get good price flights from and I love it there. I like the Osaka/Kyoto idea also, never been to either though. You are right about Singapore, its mostly just shopping, which is cool if thats what you want to do after some time on the beaches. Hong Kong has me a little worried these days for travel, but I suppose its now or never.
Maybe down the line. My fiancee hasn't traveled international much, but she did go to Thailand for the beaches. I'd love to see Bangkok, but I'm thinking it may be too similar to Manila in some ways. Probably looking for more of a contrast from the beaches in Phillippines.
No idea what Manilla is like, but Bangkok for me seemed like Asia Rome. It's big and sprawled out, lots of ruins and temples through the city and lots of good food. A little dirty and industrial like Rome also but lots of charm and cool places to explore. The Bangkok beaches are a ways away and you probably wouldn't bother with all the stuff in the city (like Rome). We really liked the water taxi system there. I think Osaka/Kyoto is the best idea though. Japanese cities are like big fun zones and Kyoto has lots of romance since it's a honeymoon trip.
Looking up possible places to eat during upcoming vacation. Saw a deli that looked interesting until I read the menu. Anyone who would put mayonnaise on a pastrami sandwich has committed unforgivable culinary atrocity.
Lincoln City for a week, then went to Bend for a week and next to Newport for a week. Next summer, North Cascades National Park.
