Just listened: https://www.espn.com/radio/play/_/id/32379056 Big news for me was that he and Olshey go back a lot farther than I realized. Billups had been picked up off amnesty by the Clippers with 15 minutes before being allowed to sign with Miami for a ring chase. No big revelations. He emphasized defense above everything else in regards to plans for the team. The offense didn't even come up, nor players beyond Dame, CJ and Nurk. You definitely get why he got the job. He seems a really relatable guy who is built for the "player empowerment" era. His talk about accountability sounds good now, but I wonder how it goes in a film session where he repeatedly calls out Dame or CJ. Those guys have played their entire NBA career with the assumption that defense was somebody else's problem. Should be interesting to see if our old dogs can learn new tricks.
CJ did the best job on Poole out of everybody, I thought he tried harder, the defense with the starters looked better and often times the one getting burned was actualy Norman Powell. The bench though, minus Zeller, looks awful, they were blown out the 3rd quarter, Olshey didn't have a great summer, lets see if Nance does better subbing for Zeller at Center
It's interesting that this was in person in Portland. Woj isn't flying out to Portland from his lair just to do a 30 minute podcast with Chauncey. I'm guessing more is coming from him on the Blazers front in some capacity given his connections to Neil.
Norm is overrated defensively. I view them pretty similarly on that end. Give CJ Norm's tools and it wouldn't be close.
