I can’t promote that, but would totally understand if it happened. Blazers will still get their money from ROOT regardless. I’m not sure who pirating effects/affects the most to be honest.

I don't know who "you guys" are, but I'll try to speak for myself on this one as I'm not speaking on behalf of any group.

I agree that every team is likely to take what they feel of as the best offer and I have no doubt this organization is doing that in this case. You seem to be implying that every team selects the provider that offers them the most money, without regard to other factors. While in general, that might be true, I have no information to back up such a claim. If you do, please share. It also would be wrong to blindly assume that every move an organization makes thinking it is the best move, is truly the best move. The Blazers organization is able to make mistakes, so I can't always assume that just because they made a choice it was the best one.

I sense your passion to defend your employer on this and I have zero issue with that. Likewise, I have zero issue with people saying they are frustrated with Root Sports and the Blazers organization.

I actually had a friend of mine in the business try to explain to me even whats going on, because I’m confused as well…..he sent me this…..

Think of it as old ROOT programming and new ROOT programming.

    City doesn’t matter.

Directv pays for old ROOT (Mariners and Timbers)

Comcast and Fubo pays for new or enhanced ROOT (Mariners, Timbers, Blazers and Kraken)

In order to get Blazers, the provider needs to pay for Enhanced ROOT. Pre NBA/NHL contracts are at a lesser rate per subscriber and don’t include the new acquisitions.

Just a reminder though…..I CAN’T EVEN WATCH THE GAMES IN MY OWN HOME. MY DAUGHTER HASN”T BEEN ABLE TO HER WHOLE LIFE. So I might actually have more beef with this than those who have been able to watch the last 15 seasons ya think.

Yep, exactly my point. It doesn't hurt the Blazers. Only Root. The best thing we can do is show them that we refuse to do anything except stream it. I'd gladly pay for a good option.

But I'm ok with getting that option for free as well.

Who knows. When I sign a big deal in my life (let's say buying a house), I don't leave it to what the seller TELLS me the improvements they'll try to make before I move in, I go off of what improvements we agree to in writing; which allows me to have some power/protection in the transaction. If the Blazers are signing mega deals on good faith of someone other companies word, especially if they have been burned in a previous deal, that would be a concern to me.

And I have no links. But c’mon, all teams are a business in all leagues. They are all taking the most money. You think the NFL gives a shit what ESPN/CBS/NBC doesn’t with their games? SHit, they are making 10os of billions off their deal and loving it. Knowing the fan base isn’t going anywhere. EVER!.

I want to understand your comparison. On the Blazers side, they get the most money, and know they can do the same in 5/6/7 years regardless of what happens on this deal. I’m trying to figure out how that would compare in your house transaction.

I'm not sure what your point if here, but I'm sorry you're frustrated about the lack of access for your family.

You had just mentioned that you understood I was defending my company, and that you understood why people are frustrated. I was just saying i am just as frustrated as a customer and fan. That I’ve been dealing with this for 15 years and this is just now effecting/affecting people for the first time.

You asked if me if Root told the Blazers if the had a plan and implied Comcast did tell them that in the past. Correct? My analogy is that when big transactions are worked out, you make sure the things you value are put in writing, you don't go off someones word.

I'm not questioning if Root is paying the Blazers the most money, they probably are. I'm questioning if getting the most money on a deal is of greater value to organization than potentially converting non-fans into fringe fans, and fringe fans into die-hard fans through availabilty of their product. This increase would certainly lead to higher demand for their product, allowing them to increase ticket prices, sell more merch, etc. which in turn could actually make them more money.

Just like I might question a coaches or GMs move, I'm questioning McGowen and the Blazers here. My questioning doesn't mean I'm right and the Blazers are wrong. However, like other recent moves, the organization is struggling to make a deal anywhere without the honeymoon period wearing abnormally quick.

So if you're frustrated, then you can understand why others are frustrated too, right? It seems like you think the Blazers are victims in this situation, which I personally don't feel is accurate.

    Great points.
I guess I’m just saying, it almost doesn’t matter? Like i said about the NFL, there fanbase is going nowhere regardless of what the networks do with their content. Thos customers will always be there. Just like the Sixers stuck with Comcast instead of jumping to Bally…..regional Bally offers a better streaming package, but Comcast was offering more money. So Philly didn’t think twice about it…..they straight knew their loyal fan base wasnt’ going anywhere regardless of when the games were aired. They had to make that cash.

My main thing is, flat out. A business is going to make deals that are best for their success in my opinion. Shoe stores, gas stations and restaurants. Plain and simple. This is on the distributors/rights owners of the games which is NOT the Blazers,it’s ROOT. As long as that is acknowledged, I’m cool with people being upset.

I think there is a flaw in your logic here. These deals can impact other revenue streams that could impact future earnings.

To give a basketball example. A player might be better of taking a $5m deal with a team who needs a starting SF and runs a system that fits their skill set, so when free agency hits the next year, they can get a bigger pay day. Opposed to signing a $7m deal with a team who had two all-star SFs already, where this player gets no minutes, and has decreased value in free agency.

It's possible the Blazers are taking the $7m deal right now that isn't the best deal for them in the long term.

Thats above my pay grade. Maybe everything will be streamed in 5 years and they wanted to get that last big chunk of cash from a Regional SPorts Network. I don’t know any details of the size of the deal though.
