No... I'm pretty sure Olshey's as good as gone. But who are they going to hire to replace him? Who knows enough about basketball to hire a decent replacement after watching Olshey treat our employees like shit for a decade while failing to improve the team at every turn? But if you're right and he's not gone things are even worse than I fear... Olshey has no more redeeming qualities.
This makes me sick to my stomach but the argument that the investigation is going long because Jody is trying to find reasons to keep him makes sense. I just don't know what they're going to say about it all if they keep him. If they keep him or not, moves have to be made by the deadline. The optimist in me thinks maybe this whole investigation will wake Olshey up or if he's fired the new GM will take big swings. The pessimist/realist in me thinks that if Olshey makes it through this he will only be emboldened to think he can do no wrong or if he's fired the interim GM won't have the clout to make big moves or the new GM won't be hired in time to make well informed big moves so they'll wait until the off season. Shit, I wish against logic that Olshey will get fired soon and the new permanent GM will be hired a week or two later. Maybe then the new GM can make big moves that give us a chance to see if Chauncey is a good coach.
Imo Billlups is the last problem in this team. Trade all players, that don't give effort. Softness and lack of effort is this bunch big problem.
I don't think hes ready to be a head coach. Larry Nance seems to have been a big pickup for us but has had next to no impact.
we must be watching different games. also: Covington played 19 minutes Sunday, finishing with three points and four rebounds. This season, he has been late on several rotations, most notably in the season opener when Sacramento’s Harrison Barnes went off for 36 points. “RoCo could be better defensively,” Billups said in Cleveland. “He’s our defensive dude. So you know, him taking that challenge of doing that is going to be really important for us. Up to now, we haven’t had that guy. Like every team has that guy. Mikal Bridges picking up Dame full court, Nico (Batum) … every team, there is a guy where it’s like, ‘Pfft, oh man, got to get him off him,’ you know? And that’s how I envision RoCo. We are just not there yet.” Covington that same day in Cleveland said he and the team were going through an adjustment period of learning a new defensive system and learning each other. “It’s not going the way I anticipated, but everybody is in a slow rhythm right now, a slow start,” Covington said. “I mean, we are all not up to our expectations right now. It’s us getting that feel, that rhythm, but that’s anticipated when you are doing a lot of different things. So for us, it’s a collective thing. Once we get everything clicking on one accord, then everything else will be better.” Covington later that night played one of his better defensive games, holding ground against impressive rookie Evan Mobley. Later that week, he had an offensive explosion late to help the Blazers beat Indiana. But for the most part, he has not played up to the standing of a player who was traded for two first-round picks.
The team needs to recognize that RoCo is a sunk cost and stop pouring good money (playing time) after bad (draft picks.) We aren't recouping the investment (thanks Neil!) so either bench him or dump him for whatever value we can get.
I’d love to go back to the Stotts getting fired thread and see people opinions on this that afternoon when we were informed it “wasn’t the roster.” I have a feeling tons on here agreed with that statement.
Merge this post in the Fire Stotts thread please! Same fucking 100 posts every fucking night for 18 straight months.
everything you said! and…RoCo, Nurkic and Nance are worthless - the players Olshey picked up are a joke. Elleby and Blevins are not professional basketball players… i see Ant and Nas as bright lights trade CJ Rest Dame until January - let him heal fire Olshey sell the team / get a new owner guess that all means a rebuild I love Dame, so if we are not going to build around him, then let him go at the deadline and get as many young prospects as possible - New York??
Chauncey has the huge task of changing the culture of a team of grown ass men. As someone who has come in to multiple companies and had to change culture, it can be hard. The great news for Chauncey is that the player everyone in the entire league respects is on board. This team also lacks length. Portland is the 4th shortest team in the NBA. Portland’s first player in wingspan is Nurk, coming in at 79…..SEVENTY NINE. Nas comes in at 12 for length measurement though, so that’s something Long story long enough, ITS THE FUCKING ROSTER.
Oh I think you start building with Nas/Ant and all those pics/young assets you could get for Dame/CJ/Norm. I know that’s not a popular opinion but hey the draft would be exciting. If you can get Maxey/Simmons/2 1s for Dame I’d do it(32 no longer fits the timeline) CJ is worth a good young player and a 1, send him to the Pelicans or Celtics I’d actually keep Norm, even in a rebuild. He’s someone I’d want the younger guys to learn from.
Of our rotation players, Nas is the only one I would keep. Ant to me seems like CJ 2.0. We have repeatedly heard how talented he is but I wonder how much of that is that he looks good because we don’t have anyone defensively good challenging him in practice. Not sold. Looks slightly better this year but nobody I’d ever want to build around. Screams career role player to me.
good coach would know how to use nurk and get the best out of him im on "fuck chauncey billups" train also fuck cj mccollum, powell & ant for being selfish bastards while were at it
