Tired of all the travel. Winning Championships isn't as glamorous as they make it out to be.....

No clue who it will be. We need new ownership to get this thing where it needs to be.

Idk, I’m just assuming everyone who isn’t fully in charge of a team is available.

so, just how attractive would Portland's GM job be?

    * a 31 year old franchise player with a super-max contract who has threatened to ask for a trade and may have a chronic injury
    * only 1 player on the roster at all-star level, and he's that franchise player above
    * an overpaid undersized SG that doesn't play defense
    * a roster with no established talent at wing, and a deficit of length and ball skills
    * a team seemingly stuck in the purgatory of 1st round exits and poor draft picks
    * only a couple of young players with potential
    * two starters are UFA this summer and both have hinted at dissatisfaction with the new coach
    * and speaking of the new coach, he has a very limited resume and seems to have a mismatch between what he wants to do and the roster

this isn't some job that starts with an open slate. In many ways, the team has been run into a ditch. There will have to be some dismantling and major remodeling and the assets to do so are pretty limited

I know most would jump at an opportunity for a promotion to GM. But would any established GM's look at the Portland job favorably?

and yet again, this is the same argument that people made about our coaching opening and almost every perceived top candidate was available for interview for our team this summer. i don't buy it at all.

This is one among 30 openings in the world. anyone worth a damn who wants to move up to a head role will be open. These positions aren't exactly available every week of the year. If we're dealing with retreads who have had other GM positions before, this might apply maybe. But for up and coming candidates, the attractiveness of our opening will hardly matter.

Agree, this job is Prime. The new GM will have a chance to do special, in a very special basketball market. He has a chance to revive rip city. Doesn't get much better than that.

If you are going to hire someone that old, why not Petrie? He had success with 2 small market teams.

Please note! I am not saying we should hire a senior citizen, just that if you were determined to go that route Ainge wouldn't even be the best candidate in that group.

Attractive as opposed to what? There are only 30 NBA GM jobs and only a handful are open each season. There will be plenty of quality candidates.

Most of ALL, hire someone who is ALL IN on rip city. This is a great basketball town, and it's a Privilege to work there.

Phoenix went with a younger guy that was willing to go to an organization that struggled for nearly 10 years. McDonough drafted Ayton & Bridges.

Thibs will be without a job before long, we could use a strong NY personality thats not afraid to bench 6'3" guards.

There just needs to be not so many of them here. If he can improve his shooting, I'd like to see Nas at SG. It would be nice to have a size/athletic advantage there on most nights with the ability to switch on to bigger players.

So, who did we pass on to hire Olshit? I honestly can't remember a single one of the other candidates.
