Aren’t these guys just the most adorable people ever? I for one think it’s terrific older people get to play dress up with their friends and play fun games like this.

But you just said you're cool with them shooting a hunting rifle... The standard AR is a low power hunting rifle... Some (chambered in 22) are even too low power to use for hunting anything but rabbits and targets.

    You're arguing just to argue

Kids really shouldn't be shooting any gun, but hunting or practicing for hunting with adult supervision is an exception.

ARs are not hunting rifles now matter how much you want to argue about it.

Im saying I can see a kid hunting with a Remington or a likewise bolt action rifle under supervision.

Yes, but isn't that more like practice? I mean it's not like you have to track them or anything. They're stationary. Not really hunting.

(BTW, I'm just fucking with you. You hunt that paper!)

Some states have illegal drugs tax stamps. If you're selling illegal drugs, didn't buy your tax stamp, and then get arrested you face additional penalties.

    https://www.taxpolicycenter.org/taxvox/why-do-states-tax-illegal-drugs

We should do this with people. If you shoot a person and didn't first buy your tax stamp you should face additional penalties.

    WTF?

Why would someone who has illegal drugs inform the federal government they are doing illegal drugs and pay taxes on it.

They would immediately be flagged and arrested for said drugs, though I guess with less penalties.

I'm not arguing just to argue. The AR platform is absolutely used for hunting. It can be chambered in many different calibers.

The calibers most commonly used to kill people (even though it's used to kill people less than bludgeoning and knives) are very low powered, and not used for hunting anything larger than rodents. Typically by families. With middle schoolers and younger.

The higher powered calibers are most often used to hunt wild hogs. In fact, that's probably the most common use of the AR platform (certainly Hogs and ground squirrels combined are).

What you are doing is buying into scare tactics and supporting restrictions that you don't seem to understand.

I would encourage you to learn more about it before supporting laws to restrict it. Particularly when they have already been restricted and that restriction had no impact on crime.

    I'm not buying into anything.

Im saying kids shouldn't have access to guns unless they are hunting with adult supervision.

What's so hard about to understand about that?

AR15s can be used for hunting but isn't really a hunting rifle. Anyone who needs to hunt with a semi auto can't be very good at it.

Again though, semiautomatic is not unique to an assault rifle.

Most hunting rifles sold today are semi automatic... And much higher caliber than most AR sold today.

Most people hunting ground squirrels use semiautomatic rifles. A large qty of which are AR style rifles.

There is literally nothing unique about the AR platform other than it is easily customizable. You can make it look how you want and add many different kinds of scopes, lights, and other accessories. That's it.

If you outlawed the platform today people would simply start customizing other platforms. Literally nothing would be solved or changed.

The AR platform is no more deadly than any other rifle. This is important. Because if you can outlaw the AR then you can outlaw any hunting rifle.

The AR does does not legally meet the military definition of an assault weapon because it is already illegal to make them select-fire with burst and fully auto capability. Unless you have a very expensive permit from the ATF which allows them to show up and search your house at any time with no notice.

Much like having old people who don't understand technology make laws regulating technology is a bad idea, so is having people who don't understand guns making laws pertaining to specific firearms.

So, a gun for killing rodent-sized people? Is that really a common use case?

And yes, I absolutely agree that kids should not have access to guns without adult supervision.
