I got to shoot an AK-47 when I was 9 or 10. It was pretty cool, but not really impactful in any way. I was back to riding bikes and playing with my dogs after that. I also didn’t play first person shooter video games for hours on end that are basically digital training sessions on how to walk into a building and waste a bunch of people, so I imagine that took away some of the gun stigma.
Sorry about all your losses. We have a big gun problem here in this country. Tired of all the people here and elsewhere trying to sweep it under the rug with we can't stop it so why try logic. It would be alot easier to stop a person with a knife and there would be a lot less deaths
My son would never get in a gun safe if I had one. I would make sure he didn't know the code. Or if I had a key, I would have it on my person at all times. I wouldn't allow that. Any parent that does is criminal. Printing 3D guns? Don't have a 3D printer. Most people don't. Not sure why you put that in there. Your argument of we can't stop it, it's going to happen no matter what, so let's let it happen is ridiculous.
Far too much credit. Parents can stop their kids from taking their guns. The parents in Michigan could have stopped it from happening. They didn't. What they did was criminal. End of story.
I agree, those parents should absolutely be liable. If you can not prevent your child from getting unauthorized access to your firearm and the ammo to use in it, you shouldn't have a firearm. I don't know if it's a majority of the time or not, but a lot of these cases involve the kid murdering their parent or guardian too, so that's a whole different thing to consider. How do we punish dead people? Take Sandy Hook for example, Lanza's mother should have absolutely being charged as an accomplice because there was warning signs and red flags yet she still SUPPLIED him with the firearm. Do we wish that this Oxford dude would have blasted his parents before turning on his classmates, idk? I know of a couple people here that probably do. Putting a gun in the hands of mentally unstable is just asking for trouble. Probably about as risky as getting behind the wheel after pounding a fifth of JD. My two cents. I know that most legislation I'd be in support of would be DOA, so I try and not get too worked up about it.
Parents should at least lose their guns if not be charged in such cases. You can't charge a dead person. No, I don't wish the oxford shooter blasted his parents. I wish they had locked it up and been more attentive. They would have realized their son was having issues. The school told them. Showed them the terrible thoughts he had been writing down and that he was searching for Ammo online at school. They shrugged it off, made sure he stayed at school, didn't take it seriously, didn't give two fucks about him. As soon as he was arrested, they fleed for Canada.
Sadly there are POS parents that have children that end up just as bad or worse. Probably the real root of the issue that will never get solved.
with requisites to being a parent. Easily prevented by holding parents responsible for not paying attention. The minimizing of parental responsibility for rhe children they bring onto this earth is alarming. Its the guns problem. Not the parents. Not social media. Not video games… the lack of logic assigned to the opinion that if we remove guns people will become same and wont kill is also alarming. Were theee guns during the crusades? Mass slaughters. Humans have killed and murdered in mass since we have kept track. But now its an issue because of guns? nah. Its always been an issue. Guns are just another way. Remove the guns and another way shall be found by those mentally ready to kill… until we fix them mentally…
It's both a parent and gun problem. A mental health and gun problem. It's an extensive, complex problem that is going to require multiple avenues of solutions, employed concurrently.
well my opinion is were putting the cart before the horse focusing on guns. Take gusn away peolle still gonna kill and it does little else for society. Clean up mental health and it will do many things for the society include help minimize insane shootings, children raised by loonies, etc. Guns didn't cause people to go nuts.
Mental health is part of it and I agree we need alot of work there. But you need the horse and the cart
you do need both. But the cart cant lead the horse or there will not be any direction. i said it yesterday and it was maybe missed, but problem solving 101 is removing the known tangibles. This means removing mental illness from the equation. Only then can we figure out how much of an impact guns still actually have. Without the first, the second will never be known.
I have no problem with preventing the mentally ill (specifically those who've shown violent tendencies) from accessing guns.
Again, assault rifles are illegal for the general population. What that girl shot, and ended up killing her instructor with, was an actually fully automatic assault rifle. You and I cannot go out and buy that legally. He had to have special permits. Most kids cannot get ahold of assault rifles because most adults are prevented from buying them. AR style rifles are not assault rifles. There is nothing more dangerous about them than any of thousands of other hunting rifles.
I'm tired of people attacking gun rights because going after guns prevents us from passing legislation which would help far more people and is actually possible to pass. It's frustrating that people want to focus on something they know so little about...
