    Quit on her team. No gold medals. Sounds like they would have given it to her whether or not she won or not.

    Basically a participation trophy for the soft generation.

    She was proclaimed as the GOAT, but then quit due to the expectations put on her by the media and fans and a host of other problems in her life (Sex abuse scandal, her brother was a gangster, etc).

    The best athletes have the mental will to overcome those and not give up, though.

    But I guess its fitting for our country.

    This era's greatest female athlete while being molested, then forced to be the face and voice of over 300 children and young women who were sexually abused while guiding a young team to the Olympics. Hell yes, she excelled!

    It's my understanding that she felt she didn't have it and that her stepping aside allowed the team to still medal.

    If you have mental illness, you can’t will yourself out of it. Btw, Michael Jordan quit on his team in 1993 when the team was in its prime. Is he one of the best athletes?

    He didn't quit in the middle of the finals. He retired in the offseason.

    Its fine that she quit if she couldn't handle the pressure, she shouldn't be rewarded for doing so and being recognized more than people who willed their way and actually met or exceeded their expectations.

    Jordan quit when they had team that could win 4 or more in a row. He couldn’t take the pressure.
