In the most recent week, vaccine effectiveness was 77.8%. This means fully-vaccinated New Yorkers had about a 78% lower chance of becoming a COVID-19 case, compared to unvaccinated New Yorkers. The New York State Department of Health will continue to closely monitor trends in vaccine effectiveness as the epidemic evolves.

Unvaccinated 12-34 year-olds in Washington are • 2 times more likely to get COVID-19 compared with fully vaccinated 12-34 year-olds.
Unvaccinated 35-64 year-olds are • 3 times more likely to get COVID-19 compared with fully vaccinated 35-64 year-olds.
Unvaccinated 65+ year-olds are • 6 times more likely to get COVID-19 compared with fully vaccinated 65+ year-olds

The NY Data shows 5 times less likely, the WA data shows between 2 times to 5 times - so the 7 times I remembered might have been from the Delta data, but the general idea still stands.

Add the fact that at least in the past the Mayo clinic showed that vaccinated breakthrough cases last a shorter time than unvaccinated cases - thus have less time to spread the disease - and the point still stands.


Also, remember that at the end of Dec, only 30% of the fully vaccinated got a booster, so these numbers should improve as more people get boosted.

Vaccines not only protect from severe cases and deaths, they also contribute to slowing the spread.

Get vaccinated, people.

 

I currently know 3 teenagers quarantining with their second case of covid-19.

I'm sure they'll all be ok, but they aren't having a good time. Wonder if they'll get vaccinated after this?

 

Not to mention the length of time vaccinated people shed the virus is shortened which also reduces the spread.
