Keeping our pick? This might be a Lottery year

?

Make the pick for the Future.....or trade it for 'now'?

  1. One last attempt

  2. Build for the future....one player won't make enough of a difference

  3. Get bad enough to where the pick makes an immediate impact

it's not that he's skinny, but he's not nearly the kinda athlete that KG/AD/Mobley are. He looks like a 190 lb Andrea Bargnani to me.

    Very good shot-blocker
    Good shooter
    Good interior passer
    Good outlet passer
    Good handles for his size
    Can use either hand

Any body contact completely moves him
He gets bumped out or boxed out quite easily

Put just 25-30 lbs on him and he would be unstoppable.

They were both amazing athletes that ran like deer and had crazy size to boot. Holmgren looks nothing like those two. Durant was also INSANELY skilled lightyears beyond Holmgren. Why people want unathletic skinny guys is beyond me.

I'm far from an expert but in looking at how narrow his shoulders and hips are, I wouldn't be shocked if he's unable to add 25-30lbs... For that reason only, I hope we steer clear of him.

Have you learned nothing about the rules of drafting from my rants?

in general, but especially in the lottery

True....I should have put, "If he can add 25-30 lbs."

    Neil stole my laptop.
    I got it back.
    Order restored.

Moves at least as well as the Lopez bros — at 7’4”

Godly advanced numbers but not sure of his NBA fit

    Sam Vecenie's 2022 NBA Mock Draft 4.0:

    5) Portland Trail Blazers - Johnny Davis

I was pretty aggressive in moving up Davis last time, slotting him as a first-rounder after his outstanding performance at the Maui Invitational. Following that event, most evaluators I spoke with saw him as something of a mid-to-late first-round pick. But as the season has progressed, there simply just hasn’t been anyone in college basketball as consistently dominant as Davis...Scouts love his ability to create off the dribble, his defensive toughness and his shot-making ability off the bounce. But there are some real questions regarding just how consistent and confident he is in his jumper...It’s also worth noting that this is where a substantial drop-off occurs in the draft. Scouts I’ve talked to see Davis right now more as a solid lottery-level to mid-first-round guy as opposed to a top-five guy. The problem is, there isn’t really anyone else around whom I’ve gotten the impression scouts see as a top-half-of-the-lottery guy, so Davis falls here for now.

    Saying this for years
Unfortunately, to me, this looks like a bad year to be picking early. I don't have a lot of faith in any of the top three becoming stars. I see a lot of bust potential in two of them.

There are some intriguing guys as you move down the lottery, but they aren't guys that would help the Blazers much next year and don't really make sense unless we make some trades to clear our glut of small shooting guards.

On the flip side, if the Blazers did wind up picking near the top, maybe some other team falls in love with a prospect and would gamble their later first-round pick and a rotational contributor to move up. That's where I think the value is for the Blazers if the roster is similar on draft day to what it is presently -- as a trade chip.

Davis is an absolute baller. And obviously if you’re drafting in the top 5 you draft for BPA. But a deep tourney run, he might desperate from the rest of the crowd.

Davis is the guard I would want most from the draft. But we just have too many of those. I’m glad he’s starting to emerge though, hopefully guys like Ivey and Davis and Baldwin start challenging for a top 3 selection. The more of them that go early, the better imo. It would push some of the bigs like Duren and maybe even Holmgren down the board. Then it’s a matter of trading down for those guys and getting other assets in return or using other assets to trade up to get one of those guys in addition to picking with our own selection.

I like Holmgren, but I like him as a 4 in the NBA, playing out on the wing, stretch 4. He’s really a tough guy to project. I could see his game adapting more to the NBA where there’s less gimmicky defenses and he has more room to do his thing.

He definitely needs to add some weight though.

What if you waited two years, then played him at the 5 with Ben at the 4 where Ben plays outside on defense/inside on offense and Chet plays inside on defense/outside on offense?

In the history of mankind, the % of guys who can't add weight as they age is very very small. Unless there are concerns about his knees & back, I'm not concerned about his body. While only a few players can guard all 5 positions, in today's switch everything game it's valued if a guy can at match up for moments on most players and CH should be able to do that even on guards. Chet's going to struggle against the power guys in the league at least initially, but at there aren't many of those. He will provide elite help D and probably be among the best shot blockers in the league because of his quickness, length and understanding of the game. On Offense there is no concern only questions of how dominant he might be. He's versatile with good fundamentals on his shot and should be able to get it off at will.

Yeah if he was paired with a really big PF who can bang down low (Simmons qualifies) then he'd be fantastic. I also don't like that people are referring to Chet as unathletic. For a guard he's not the most athletic even if he is more mobile in every direction than CJ but for a guy who is a legit seven footer he is very spy. The guy is elite as far as north/south speed for a big, he's explosive vertically and he's actually got some quickness laterally to defend on the perimeter. Then there's the fact that he shoots and passes like a really solid offensive PG. If I was gambling on upside I'd pick him first. If I needed a big to be the last piece to a championship puzzle I'd take Paolo.

The concern is, that extremely small pool of examples includes super tall, super skinny guys like Shawn Bradley and Manute Bol. I'd say it's more likely he follows that path than that of the general populace. Genetic outliers don't usually follow the norm.

He makes Zach collins look like Shaq. Too weak. Need the size of Ayton, or even Mobley. 7ft 190? Zero interest in him on draft night.

jokic will out weigh him by 100 pounds! He will never be a star in the league imho, sort of bol bol material.
