Keeping our pick? This might be a Lottery year

Discussion in 'Portland Trail Blazers' started by TBpup, Dec 5, 2021.

?

Make the pick for the Future.....or trade it for 'now'?

  1. One last attempt

  2. Build for the future....one player won't make enough of a difference

  3. Get bad enough to where the pick makes an immediate impact

If he was 7'6" or 7'7" then I could see the Bradley and Bol comparisons but the dude is 7'0" tall, that's a half foot shorter and he's younger than either of those two were when they were drafted. Both of them were in their twenties when their very light weight was measured before the draft and we have yet to see how much weight Chet puts on in his first year after high school. Maybe he will be too skinny but his weight going into the draft should be pretty telling about that. His skills however are different than any other seven footer I've seen. The combination of his shooting ability, passing, speed, timing on both shot blocking and rebounding at his size is different than anyone else I've seen.

At the time Bradley or Manute Bol played i m pretty sure the science behind NBA teams wasn't the same. With the tools we have today it's way easier to help such guys fill their frame.
He might not pan out but you don't pass on guys like that in today's NBA.

I don't understand how basketball fans haven't noted that the power big man is mostly gone from the game. Chet projects as a Big like Durant and Porzingis, he won't be primarily matched up on Embiid for 82 games as a rookie.

Those are outliers not the norm. If it's necessary, I could compile a pretty decent counter list. It would include the reining MVP who came into the league weighing 190 lbs.

I’m a fan of Paolo too — a nightmare matchup offensively

He's built the same as them, though, and 7'ers are an outlier by any measure. Guys like Gobert, Giannis, and even Durant have a wiry strength to them. I just don't see the ability to add much muscle with the Holmgren/Bol/Bradley body types.

Like how Bol Bol has become a physical presence with modern NBA science?

I should’ve been more clear, my apologies.
My overall point is this; is it not a massive red flag that he has *multiple* games scoring in single digits?
I understand the argument that he can change the game in multiple ways, but from a #1 pick, I think asking 2 points per quarter or per 5-6 minutes (game time) is… not that much.

Is anyone talking about Jabari Smith; I see he has moved to the top in the Athletic's latest mock and also read something else that scouts were rating him at the top.

And Bol Bol was better in the (few) games that he did play.

And he was heavier, by a significant margin, than Holmgren.

Comparing Chet to KD or Giannis is not really apples to apples. Chet is known for being slow. KD and Giannis aren’t slow.

You can literally have KD or Giannis effectively guard a PG all game long. Good luck to Chet on that.

how about b-ball IQ and attitude to begin with? Only thing those two really have in common is body type.

    Thank you.

Bol Bol has always been low motor and high mistake player defensively. It's why he was drafted late and hasn't seen the floor much in the NBA

Chet is the exact opposite. Also think he moves better than Bol. Chet's straight line speed is pretty awful, but he's pretty fluid and can flip his hips quickly which makes him pretty darn good for his size in short space / half court situations.

I have my reservations about Chet, but the Bol comp is just lazy analysis plain and simple.
