both were acquired by the draft...the trade wasn't for Dame....it was for the pick that became Dame.

still...it doesn't matter how they got the pick, what they did is draft well....losing of course gets you a better pick....whether it's intentional or not I have no idea...

No way Lillard sits out rest of season if he elects not to have surgery. He'll put it off till offseason.

He's just saying the Blazers didn't get the pick by tanking.

They were crappy that year anyway, with only 28 wins. They didn't have to tank, though with the 11th pick they probably wouldn't have gotten Lillard as he would have been gone by then....so it's good they traded for the pick.

They drafted Meyers Leonard with that 11th pick. We know how that turned out.

quick said it's not a question of "if," but "when" dame elects to have surgery and the team is going to "play this season out for the draft pick."

I'm not sure it's certain surgery is the best course of action. There are no guarantees with any surgery and plenty of risks

but if it is recommended, then I do not see any reason to delay. Get it done and tank the damn season. The most important asset the Blazers have right now is a chance at a high draft pick

Good. It should have been done months ago. The Olympics strike again though.

Yep, get Dame fixed, let the young guys play and gain experience and trade value if needed, and lets get the best pick we can. Trade Roco for sure and frankly anyone else (likely except Dame) if the right deal comes along

Not really sure what the bone of contention was in this. If the surgery is going to be needed, get it now. Get yourself more time to get back into playing shape. Give yourself more of a buffer in case of some kind of setback during rehab. The Blazers aren't going to win in the playoffs this year even if they get Simmons and Sabonis without gutting the roster if Dame's not over 90%.

If I'm the Blazers, I encourage Dame to get the surgery and I have Cronin to still try to make a couple of big moves with the eye being for next year and the year following with a healthy Dame.

Whoa! That's a six game road trip that lasts until January 23rd. I'm glad they're taking this seriously because rest, rehab and a cortisone shot didn't do the trick. Eager to see what the specialists have to say and where Dame goes from here.

so, is he meeting with specialists?...or meeting with specialists again?

what is there about the injury that's not known at this point?

Everything I've read says that you don't get surgery on tendinopathy without a tear. They might be talking to surgeons about less used or experimental surgical procedures that could get rid of the damaged tissue for good. They might be discussing different types of treatment to try and get that tissue to heal like PRP, TENS, Ultrasound therapy and the likelihood that those would help. Maybe just how much rest and therapy might be the most before knowing that it won't work. So I'm assuming that they are looking outside of the normal approaches to this chronic injury because the initial prescribed solutions haven't worked to this point.

I suppose that's possible. But he's been dealing with this for 4 years now so unless there is some new experimental surgery. I doubt they are considering something that hasn't been considered before

I'd wonder is the team is subtly pushing for Dame to consider surgery because of the opportunity to tank the season. Or if this is just a way to hold Dame out of more games. It may also be that Dame has been reluctant to consider surgery to this point

the impact of the cortisone shot could have worn off as well
