A lot of ifs here, but all things being equal, I'd rather have a solid defensive 2/3 and Harris than CJ and Roco.
That might be best for us anyway. I think Morey holding Simmons till at least the draft gives us more time to focus on other things. I really want Simmons, but I am not taking Harris with Simmons. Any combination of Nurkic, Covington, and Powell can get us into this draft, or at least our own pick back. With Dame sitting, you see if Ant/CJ at PG/SG works. Let’s see if Ant at PG makes CJ’s time any easier. Even if CJ isn’t a guy Morey wants, there’s a very strong chance Simons can develop into what he wants by the end of the season. A sign and trade where Simons gets a ~$20m contract with a few picks for Simmons would be even better than CJ + whatever. I’m not being overly optimistic or even expecting this, but I’m just pointing out that that possibility is out there and that capitalizing on Simons’ value might be better in FA instead of the trade deadline (for those who still doubt a 2 small-guard lineup). Teams like the Knicks will still need CJ at the end of the season. CJ just becomes another trade asset. Dame + ____ + Nas + Simmons + ____ That plus a potential lotto pick from this, young guys and salaries from other trades, and the combination of Norm/Nance/Nurk that doesn’t get traded. And that gives us flexibility to be a player in 2023 FA as well.
I still would not take Harris’ deal. I can see teams like the Knicks or maybe even Atlanta attaching picks or a young guy to get CJ. It’s hard for me to imagine any team giving anything up for Harris. How much would we have to attach to Harris to get rid of him? But I’ve always been down on him since his Orlando days, so maybe it’s just a personal bias against him lol.
Philly hasn’t won a title but they most assuredly have been a contender when healthy. They had the #1 seed last year.
they were beat in the 2nd round last season by a lower seed. They've been in the playoffs 4 straight years; they were swept once in the first round and have not played in the EC finals once with this team. That's no better than the Blazers, and arguably worse, and the Blazers have not come close to contending. Philly has "most assuredly" NOT been a contender
Morey is just weird. Nobody jumping at Ben Simmons so he sweetens to pot with…Tobias Harris and his awful contract?
Or he knows he’s not gonna get what he wants so he may as well try and dump Tobias in the process. Then he can get his bf Harden or whatever.
Because he's arguably the best defensive player in the league? A 3 time all-star at the age of 25 and still has 3 years on his contract after this season? You still don't understand?
Just read that the Nets are targeting Simmons for Harden in the offseason..don't know how Simmons can keep paying fines until then but Morey would be dumb to pass that up
No way. Supposedly they were offered Simmons for Kyrie and KD told them not to do it. If they won't trade Kyrie for Simmons. No chance they want to move Harden for Simmons.
What have the players we would be trading won? Simmons fill a massive hole this team has had for years. At some point. It is time to try something else.
we don't know what they'll do by a long stretch but Harden for Simmons is going to cancel out any CJ combo trade for him so that's as far as my interest..... Harden was traded away from a KD OKC team without issue.... KD is not the most loyal teammate around... ask Draymond Green
Depends on what we give up for him. If it is CJ, Ant and his scoring seems like it could pick up some of what is gone from CJ.
