Harden was traded because OKC couldn't afford everyone.

doesn't matter why....KDs reaction to his leaving was ...."no big deal" ..I expect the same reaction if he's traded again....KD probably would rather play with Ben Simmons than Harden....who knows?

Call me crazy but if the demand is just to take Tobias with Ben in order to get Ben, I would do it. The Bulls get a piece that makes them even better than they currently are so they should be willing to give up a pick that has to land after the 14th for that. If we didn't make another move then we would start Ant, Norm, Nas, Harris and Simmons with Shake, Ben, Tony and Cody off the bench. I think we would probably want to make another trade but maybe we'd be good with this.

Full disclosure I like Harris's game, I think he's a decent defender at the 4... far better than any of our guards are at their positions and obviously he's a really gifted scorer. I do not think what he brings to the table is worth 36, 37 or 39M which is what he'll be getting during this season and the next two but he's definitely a good player to have on the court if you disregard his salary.

I like Tobias Harris' contract even less than CJ's.....I wouldn't do that trade by any stretch seeing us gut our front court to achieve it. Basically giving up our 3 best defenders and 2nd best scorer for Harris and Simmons sounds like a loss given how Simmons can't shoot. Nurk isn't backing up Embiid and Drummond either.....Charlotte needs a big, not Philly so much

Harden is a better player than Kyrie though. That's why it makes zero sense. If KD said no to Kyrie, who wasn't even playing at the time, for Simmons...why would he just be like ok you can have a better player now for him.

My first guess would be available cap money...second would be alpha male aspirations...but really who the fuck knows? I just know KD isn't a poster boy for franchise loyalty and who leaves the Warriors after winning championships with them to go have "your own team"....my guess....KD.

I'm still on the fence about Simmons, but if you are a guy who thinks he will be great for us and you can make a deal where you can send out only CJ and expirings and get him PLUS an upgrade at PF, then it's really only the financials that are holding you back, right?

I like this but since Jody Allen is gonna be in financial hell no matter what, why send away Nance? I don't know why but all the trade machines allow me to trade out 55 million and take in 69 million. We will need Nance with Nurk gone.

While I was the one that proposed the deal the financials might be something that would logically keep the team from doing it. We would not dodge the tax this season. We would have ~114M committed to three players. We would still have 8 players under contract for around 140M and I think the luxury tax will start at 145M. Then there's re-signing Ant that we'll be lucky to get done at around 15M. So I think that as far as talent and fit, the trade does make sense but financially it might put us in a hard place.

Yeah, if that could get the deal done with the Sixers I'd be all for it. That does mean that we'd be over the luxury tax before even re-signing Ant next season. If we did re-sign Ant for 15M in the first year of the contract, we would start the season with Dame, Norm, Nas, Harris, Simmons, Ant, Larry and GB3 under contract for around 162M plus 14M more for minimum salary guys and we'd be 31M into the tax.

It's too bad I'm not the owner. Cuz if I was worth $25 billion, I wouldn't worry about $100 million tax every year if I had a great team.

Would Dame, Simmons & Harris be a solid enough core to build a contender around?
Simmons may not be a pure shooter but he can score a lot better than anyone we currently have in the front court, plus defend at s high level.
Harris is also better 3/4 than anyone we currently have.
Yep, the Harris contract sucks, but I rather pay Dame & Harris than Dame & CJ. We've had the same holes in our roster for a few years, this would solve it in quick fashion.

Okay. So let's stay the same. Makes sense. Not like he doesn't fill a bunch of our weaknesses. You're right.

Harris at $41m in 2023-24 is a disgusting amount to be paying for solid third guy and an underperforming second guy. You would think becoming the second option would increase his numbers. Instead, he’s scoring less and on significantly worse efficiency.
I’d rather let Little develop. And I can still extend him for WAY less than $40m a year. You would still have a hole at C, at which you can’t fill because you’re stuck paying $38.5m and $41m to your SF over the next two years even though you have a 22 year old SF that SHOULD be getting those minutes.
But it’s easier to say that when you’re not stuck with the bill. I’ll say this—I’d rather “overpay” Simons $20m a year than be stuck with Harris for an average $39m a year.

We all say that until we get a little bit of money lol. And to be fair, that wouln’t be a great team, so there is that.

You know who might also be a better 3/4 than anyone we currently have but he’ll be making WAY less than an average $40m a year? Joe Ingles.

LOL and that was just off the top of my head. Don’t need to even look at this free agency class or think that hard when that production comes with that price tag.

Tobias Harris is fast fashion…if fast fashion came with Luxury brand prices. Sometimes a cheap Nassir will be better in the long run. Maybe he’ll age well and be worth more in the future. Maybe he’ll be worth more than that $40m piece that someone else paid for, but at a fourth or half the price. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

That certainly is a strong case against spending that kind of money.
