i agree Chip recruits like shit.

I was always the biggest Mario apologist because he was getting the guys here. But he didn’t know what to do with the talent when they got here.

Chip knew what to do with the Ferrari he inherited. He took it out for a spin

Chip was a sham. He had a gimmick offense that worked because the game hadn't adjusted yet, but now that gimmick sucks and he isn't good.

The blur offense was amazing for a few seasons because defenses simply weren't physically prepared to keep up with the tempo. Chip helped change the game, but once his flash in the pan offense stopped working, he stopped being a good coach. I will say this though, the guy had balls. I loved the attitude that he brought. He had the right mindset to win a natty. The ego. The best coaches all have a little bit of ego. Leaders of men. I never got that vibe from Cristobal, and I definitely never got it from Mark Helfrich.

Remember the Cal game this year? A lot was made about fans boo-ing and it was said in the media that it was directed at Anthony Brown. While there definitely was frustration within the fanbase this past season with Brown's overall passing ability, the boo-ing was happening when they came up short running it up the gut on 3rd down.

I'm all for establishing an identity on offense and can get behind a power running game attack, but a good coach has to occasionally change things up to keep the D honest. Every single year under Mario through one OC after another, the fans, announcers & players knew what would be called on 3rd or 4th and short. Always doing the same thing lessens it's effectiveness because it's so predictable, & predictable is boring.

Curious how sham Chip with his gimmick offense finished 1st (or near the top) of every single offensive category in the Pac 12 this past season including 1st in points scored. Maybe thats in part why he just signed a massive extension?

In an opinion shared by many college football observers, I'd point to Chip's obvious shortcoming being that he doesn't like to recruit. Now that UCLA admin has forced out his longtime DC Jerry Azzinaro, I'd suspect they bring in someone who does. The SoCal area continues to pump out top prospects, if UCLA starts landing their fare share things could get very interesting down South.

After beating #2 UCLA last night, Ducks are aiming at #5 USC tonight. USC has good shooters, the Mobley guy, tough D and 7 guys 6'9" or taller, but Ducks are up by 16 at half. Dante and Kepnang playing tough defense in the middle and Richardson hot from the three. I'm sure they can't keep up the good shooting so this will probably go down to the wire.

Gotta hold these last 3 min. When’s the last time an unranked team beat 2 top 5 teams in the same week?

Ducks win 79-69; that is as close as SC got in the second half. I think Richardson made the only baskets for Ducks in the last two minutes, a three and a drive to the basket. He also stole the ball in that time period.

Ducks are only Pac 12 team to ever beat two top ten teams on a road trip. Of course how many times in Pac 12 history has a team played two top ten teams on a road trip?

Eric Williams much better tonight than Thursday. Thursday I think he took sixteen shots, most of them ill-advised. Tonight just six shots and made half. He has a little more length than most Ducks so he was good on D tonight.

Chip sucks at recruiting, and arguably doesn’t care about recruiting , but he can coach AND develop talent / schemes. Opposite of Mario.

He had a short window where his gimmick offense worked. It was a lot of fun while it lasted. Frankly it ruined CFB for me. It became much harder to watch games after we were hanging 60-70 points on people. So much fun. But coming up with a gimmick offense that only worked for a few years doesn't make him a great coach.

It IS pretty damn impressive. I know Altman always gets improvement from his teams every year but I saw this team earlier in a game they got beat and they just looked beat psychologically also, especially Richardson who has now become their go to guy again..

I'm with you. I rarely, if ever doubt Altman. Having said that, unless Richardson can become an elite playmaker, I think they'll continue to see the highs and lows that have been on display this season.

He was handed the keys to a Ferrari.

I don’t think Chip Kelly is Bear Bryant or even a HOF coach. But his teams won, whether it was gimmicky or not.

I didn’t want him re-hired at Oregon either. But damn while he was here he sure made things exciting during that stretch.

The twitterverse it all aglow with Duck DLine rumorama. It looks like Oregon might have received a verbal from a big fish from Arizona DT Christen Miller but somehow also lost one of their early signees Sir Mells out of Nevada. Since Mells has already signed, apparently Oregon couldn't be pushing him out in a scholarship purge, something would have to have happened to have voided his commitment (I'm not going to speculate). Bummer as he looked to be a potential NT and those are hard to come by. Also, having followed Miller for this cycle, he seems kind of drama prone so I wouldn't count him in until he signs.

Again, the Bruins just led the conference in scoring and many other offensive categories with Chip's gimmicky offense and then UCLA signed him to a massive extension. Apparently having ruined CFB for you means that you don't pay attention to whats actually happening.
