I could see spending 80k on a robot that would wander out in the road in front of a logging truck the next day!

Oregon State University developed the very first robot that could run on two legs. I saw it do just that several years ago. Their main focus was on developing robots to help the disabled.

I wonder what these companies are thinking while they develop something that could eventually subjugate the human race.

Like..... once robot armies are a thing, governments won't need to worry about uprisings. They won't need a large standing army. All they need to do is go Star Wars on your ass and send in the droid army to quell any uprising.

The second amendment won't mean much once technology surpasses humans.

Same thing the governments thought while developing nuclear weapons - better have something to deter the other guys from having it and hope they are nice... Unfortunately, this is not a movie we have not seen before...

This is exactly it. You can't stop it from being developed. You had better be on the forefront of development so you can be in position to have a say when it gets really dangerous.

I'm sure someone probably said the same thing when they were developing the atom bomb.

The atom bomb was forseeable while robots running amok in mass is not.

Who is talking about robots running amok? I’m talking about governments using robots to pacify their public. Hell, we are doing it abroad. Eventually people will be begging for them to replace police because robots would not be prejudice toward POC. They would not shoot children. Etc etc etc. but they also follow orders without question. They have no conscience. They won’t need a military or a police force. A handful of people could control an entire populace.

Amok: possessed with or motivated by a murderous or violently uncontrollable frenzy; In this case I'm referring to uncontrollable as uncontrollable by most of us citizens.
