    More from the call:

Other teams still unsure about what direction Portland will go. Only guarantee that is they'll make a move to duck the tax and there's lots of suitors for RoCo. CJ and Norm can both get dealt around the time of the draft rather than the deadline. Lot can change still in the next two weeks with injuries that can guide the direction that the FO will pursue

they have a 10.8 mil TPE that Roco can slot right into. If they want to put their first rounder in play, I'd prefer that over an upcoming FA like Finney-Smith.

They also have about 15 mil of room under the tax threshold so it would not be an issue to simply absorb his contract.

I don't even know why Dame would want to stay on this team at this point. All they care about is money.

why the hell would you WANT to pay tax with THIS roster and become a repeater next year?! I know this is some narrative you want to push, but this incentive to duck tax is not exactly a sign of the team being cheap.

Also to keep in mind, with regards to Dallas potentially being a landing spot for Roco:

FWIW I heard Windhorst on Sirius this morning and they specifically asked about the Blazers. He said all is quiet on the Blazers front and floated the idea that they may be happy with how the team is looking in January to reconsider drastic measures. But again he reiterated radio silence.

DFS > pick, we’re not a rebuilding team with Dame around.

    ah shoot, you're right.

    i just checked the FAQ. It's only 100% + 100k in a non-simultaneous deal.

Can do bullock, brown and a pick, but they can't trade their 2022 pick, so soonest we can get is 2025. They owe 2023 to NY.

It’s why I think we should blow it up and build around Little and Simons. It’s great everything that Lillard has done and I love him. But good organizations know when to move on.

Good organizations know how to build around a superstar because they know those don’t come around often. Not interested in becoming the Magic thanks. You don’t trade Lillard unless he asks out.

I mean........ if you're on the "Build around Dame" train, I would think the goals should be:

    1. Keep Dame Happy
    2. Trade current assets for assets that help keep Dame happy
    3. Trade for assets that can put us in a position to contend NEXT YEAR.

Saving money shouldn't even be on the list.... or it should be very far down the list. How could shedding salary even remotely help put us in a position to contend next year?

Being a repeat tax payer is very prohibitive from various different angels. Hell, even our MLE in the summer could be essentially double that we can offer to potential FAs just by not being a tax payer.

Ducking it now is a no brainer.

I liked your post because you're right about what the main objectives should be but it should also be easy if we can attain those objectives to duck the tax at the same time.

LoL…. Wouldn’t that be a shocker? The Blazers brass changing there mind and are happy with how the team is playing just so they can be the same ol’ team.
