Even if true he's had rosters with more talent and none of them were legit contenders. There is no way to contend in Lillard's prime with this roster that lost two starters for nothing. Even if Dame is amazing like in the bubble and the team loses early in the playoffs, what's the point?
Doing nothing and letting Roco walk wouldve provided more value then this shit return. You make it sound like Norm was on a Westbrook or John Wall contract. He'd be amazing as a 3rd guard/6th man. Trade CJ for an expiring contract and keeping Norm would've given this team more cap flexibility in the future and more assets to build a winner in the summer. None of the above is a Blazer fans "overvaluing" players. This trade is indefensible.
Expiring contracts have always been a nice piece around deadline time. Especially for 3 and D type guy who can help a team in the playoffs. Add to that an almost 20ppg scorer who plays defense and is in his prime. We got back 3 guys who most likely will never help us, no assets. A week before teams get more anxious to make that trade that helps them. Shit trade and there’s no way around it.
Somehow we turned a 20ppg two way scorer on a great contract into 3 scrubs making 12 million next season and people think we gained financial flexibility?
Have you ever been critical of the team? Ever? We could’ve traded Lillard for a shit sandwich and you’d be on here justifying it to us.
It's a message board. Fans can post messages all they want. So no I don't have to move on. You can talk about how great every decision is and support the team no matter what. Others can criticize the team no matter the action. I and many others fairly support or criticize where warranted. I supported Neil when he did well even up to being fired so I'm not some blind hater. But I'm very pissed when a team I followed for 30 years gave away 2 starters for scrubs and has got worse in both the short and long term with no upside. I'm not gonna get over it in a few days, so don't tell me to get over it.
There were literally hundreds of possible trades that could've got the Blazers out of the repeater tax. Giving away two starters for scrubs was not the smart way to do it.
When just about everyone disagrees with you including all of the national pundits you aren't necessarily wrong, you're just most likely wrong. It's really not a matter of the financials not making sense, you keep on pointing out that we got under the tax and freed up a little money for the off season (6M), you also keep saying we freed up a roster spot when we actually used up an extra roster spot both this season and next but what you are blatantly neglecting is there was more time to negotiate, there was more time to see what was out there. Unfortunately for your argument what most writers and analysts, some of whom have been GMs before, are saying is that if we were going to take these players back for RoCo and Norm we should have gotten more draft capital back. The idea that Cronin could have been certain 7 days before the deadline that no better deal would surface is just incorrect. So the organization got what they wanted, they got under the luxury tax which was goal number one and they gained a very small amount of cap space for this summer. That just can't possibly be worth the difference in production between Norm and RoCo versus Bledsoe, Winslow and Johnson... the 2025 second round pick wasn't even a fifth of what it would have taken to make up the difference. It can only possibly be worth the difference if our team doesn't care about winning during Dame's window of being a top competitor in this league because Bledsoe is completely washed and was never that good to begin with, Winslow was a draft bust five years ago and is only a rotation guy on bad teams and a lot of experts thought Johnson was a huge stretch at 21 and Brandon Boston Jr. has been proving those experts right all season. Just break it down, be logical and you'll have to agree that from a competitive standpoint (not just this year but for years to come) this was a horrendous deal.
Or you could stop responding to everyone telling people to move on. It was a shit trade. Stop trying to spin it.
I love it when posters write off a columnist, reporter, etc. Just because they speak the truth on the state of the team sometimes. Dwight sucks. I get it. Doesn't mean he is wrong. Or Canzano is wrong. Or Quick is wrong. They have been wrong. But so have every poster here.
no, but i find it highly unlikely they move him. think they're gonna trade ibaka or morris to reduce tax burden.
Move on bro. Stop whining about it. Blah blah blah blah. People forget this is a forum. If the Blazers do a shit move we can complain about it. We can criticize the team even if they are our favorite team. Think about Kings fans. Could you imagine their fans? That franchise sucks. You would still have those posters saying we are ridiculous for thinking they made a bad move.
He may be righ or he may not be; he's just speculating. My point is that his reporting over the last few years appears to have an agenda.
I agree that paying Dame less money would be better for Portland's cap flexibility. If it turns out he wants the max, does that mean you would trade him? Portland is in a tough spot.
Of course Dame will want the max or close to it. If he is going to stay here for the twilight of his career, he is gonna want to be paid. If we had any chance of actually competing for a title and we needed wiggle room, maybe he would consider it. But, we aren't even close to being contenders.
I have no clue if he's right or wrong. I guess here's what we KNOW to this point: Cov hasn't been traded to another team There is no way to prove/disprove Cronin panicked. If I do or don't like the move Jaynes over the last few years has taken a pro-Olshey stance on nearly every topic or suddendly had no opinion about him when he was under investigation. Doesn't it feel like he's a pushing an agenda for someone else vs reporting facts?
