We basically need to absolutely fleece someone on a CJ trade to break even.

And if we do people will somehow connect that 1 to the previous trade as if it's all one big deal

The Athletic gave the Pacers a C+, which is lower than what they gave the Blazers. Guess we got a new worst trade in the history of the NBA!

    Gave up:
    4 seasons of Powell
    opportunity/advantage to re-sign Roco

    Acquired:
    Full MLE
Space to re-sign Ant and Nurk
A first rounder that was just drafted that at one point was a projected lottery pick
A solid role player in Winslow
Bledsoe’s contract to use in a trade/free up money
    Second round pick

If that’s an F so be it.

Lulz They could have signed Nurk and Ant regardless of this trade. A second round pick 3 years from now? LMFAO.

I don't understand how people are trying to spin this after what Indiana just got for Levert. Kings wanted to give us Bagley for Roco straight up and he would be a better prospect than anyone we got back in this trade.

im not salary cap expert, but, had they re-signed nurk & ant, they wouldve been in a luxury tax (they already were)

im not even sure they can re-sign nurk & ant on 20 per contracts, even if they trade cj mccollum

They can resign them even to max contracts if they want. They will just pay more tax.

i know they can, but they dont want to pay the tax and they shouldnt, this team is nowhere near contending for a chip

For next season it is almost unavoidable. I suppose they did everything they could to go below lux tax this year to avoid the repeater tax.

Also add Kevin Pelton to the list of guys that actually worked in the league that didn’t have a problem with the move. Gave the Blazers a B- and said if Johnson develops theyll come out ahead in the deal.

One problem I think there is between the few that like the trade and the rest of us is that for some fucking reason you guys care if the team makes 50M this season in profit or 150M in profit. The fact is NBA teams don't even have to worry about the bottom line because their valuation goes up so quickly that they're making far more money in asset appreciation than anyone needs to make off of a business to want to keep it. If they're breaking even they should just be cool with it... I get not wanting to go in the red despite the hundreds of millions of dollars the organization increases in value every year but after that they can kick rocks. I want to hear about what's going to get us wins not ducking tax and saving ownership money.

All of this shit about being able to sign Ant and Nurk, freeing up more money and even having enough to get an impact free agent when we all know that the front office that's still in place has never signed an impact free agent even when they had the room to. It's all bullshit. This move is a move you would see from the Money Ball A's but this isn't baseball and you can't win without real elite guys in this league. Only five guys are on the court at a time and the best model for winning is to have an eight or nine man rotation.

So all of this talk about the fiscal advantages sounds like people are buying into billionaires needing more billions and us as fans should be routing for them to get that money. I couldn't give a shit. Winslow does not play on teams that are winning, hell he was only getting 13 minutes on this year's injury riddled Clippers team. Johnson was a reach at 21... yeah he came out of high school with a big time rep but his play in college was not good enough to justify where he went and he's been proving that. A second round pick four drafts from now?!? We could buy that shit for chump change to these billionaires on draft night.

There's a personal problem I have with one of your points and that is that Nurk is a dinosaur and Ant is just as redundant with Dame as CJ has been for the last six seasons... you can tell because Ant's numbers have plummeted since having to play with a ball dominant guard like CJ. So I want those guys traded not re-signed and likely overpaid.

Also your speaking out of both sides of your mouth when you say "opportunity/advantage to re-sign RoCo" sarcastically and then brag about how the trade freed up cap space. RoCo gave us a choice we could free up cap space if there was something out there for us better than RoCo or re-sign him if he was the best we could get, that's why there were reports that 7 teams had him highly valued. Now we have Bledsoe's useless ass and keeping him on his terrible contract would never be an option. We got less flexibility because we now have less choices and only increased the cap space by a measly 6M.

We needed to duck the tax and we needed to trade these guys but the idea from just about every logical thinking person was that we could duck the tax and either get pieces back that we knew could help us win or draft assets and the kind of shitty guys we got. Nope purely a money move with no regard for how competitive the team will be now or in the future.

Yep, this Cronin deal is looking more and more like it will be filed under "What the fuck were they thinking?" Oh but Portland got a guy with a great vertical leap. SM-MF'n-H

Most likely we could have dealt both individually and still cut the same salary and acquired 2 1s. That’s a bit frustrating.
