I haven't done the math on how far below the tax Portland is right now. I'm thinking 2-3M. Reddish has a 4.7M salary, so the offset would be how much under CJ's salary Randle and Burks/Noel are. And Portland can add Snell to the outgoing package for extra margin

That makes us better, but it doesn't make me super happy. I'd much rather get Jones + Hart + a pick from the Pelicans and I absolutely think they can and should do that for CJ. They already have Ingram and Zion, Jones while super solid with upside is nowhere NEAR the impact of CJ nor as good a fit next to Zion and Ingram.

I also hope we apply pressure to the Sixer to get Simmons instead. Randle is wayyyy too offensive only to put next to Dame and Ant which is clearly our starting backcourt (this is actually the only credit I will give Cronin, recognizing what we have in Ant and making moves accordingly assuming CJ is dealt). No to Randle we need defenders like Jones or Simmons to put next to Dame + Ant + Nurk. Plus Randle plus Nurk is similar to Simmons plus Nurk clogging up the paint without the DEFENSE of Simmons next to Nurk. Sure he can hit FT's but he brings some of the same spacing problems that Simmons does and 1/10th the defense.

If it was CJ for Randle and Taj, I think we'd still stay under absorbing him, no?

If we could get Jones and Hart in a CJ to NOLA trade... along with a pick, that would be unbelievably cool. Unfortunately as cool as it would be it also seems extremely unbelievable that they'd do it.

it's only 900k under or so. Any additions of our minimum guys to deals would only be to clear roster spots

randle was one of the best defensive bigs in the league last year, but nearly every metric. but yes, he has to be engaged to get that effort on that end.

if we did Randle and Taj, that opens an additional 4.1 million. Reddish is at 4.6, so we'd still be about 400K below the tax. More, because we'd have to include like Snell and Zeller for roster issues.

    So start with:

    then follow up with :

    ideally with a pick.

If we trade this week it won't be until Thursday for the deal would be complete. Because right now the Blazers are trying to get the best package for CJ.

rumors I've seen is that they may have "interest"
gotta feeling we ain't gonna get much for CJ just like the other trade, I think Randle will look good for what we end up getting assuming he is moved, just take and hope I am very wrong!

Not a big Randle fan, but if you can get close to the monster year he had last year, that would be pretty impressive. (24/10/6 on 41% 3-pt shooting) He is still putting up 19/10/5, it's just that his shooting fell off a cliff....ugly! Part of that may be that they tried to make him a #1. He wouldn't have to worry about that here and would get more 1-on-1 coverage. He is still very quick down low.

It has been proven that going up to the deadline for Cronin isn't a thing. He just like... Does it.
