We ARE over the cap now.

If we don't use it by tomorrow, then yes, the order of operations would have to be to finish our extensions, get over the cap, then use the TPE. And we can try to find a use for it all the way til next year's deadline.

The only way we lose it is if we renounce in some effort to generate capspace this summer for a free agent.

it looks to me that the plan is to re-sign simons & nurk and get power forward (i.e. grant), get dame lillard & little back and thats our starting five for the next season

Simons hold is less than I'd expect his new contract so in theory you could push that back in the order.

    "Potentially important"

I'd assume Miami has a trade coming where they ship out a first round pick.

If cap space is the plan, I would try to use it (or part of it) now to acquire an expiring contract from another team in exchange for additional minor draft compensation.

we don't have capspace now. We will on July 1 when the season turns over. And we have to be cognizant of not climbing back over the tax now if we simply added a player making 20 mil for our TPE.

I assume he meant use the TPE now and use cap space in the summer.

So this move now makes it cj and Nance for hart, Hughes, a first and 3 2nds. Hart and Nance are comparable value, IMO, so it's a 1st and 3 2nds for cj and a huge tpe. That's good value

Yes, but if we used the TPE, would be then be back over the Tax? If that is the case, then we would want to wait to use it where going into the Lux Tax next year isn't a 'repeater' issue.

If Lowe is correct this kind of makes me wonder IF they are trying to get involved in a Simmons trade OR more likely maybe try and get Grant from the Pistons but this is just me thinking out loud but kind of makes sense.

We could use the TPE to acquire a player then send a smaller contract (Winslow?) out so we still stay right under the tax.

In a separate deal, right? We can't combine the TPE with a player, can we?

Yeah, we're currently at about 16 million below the tax. For someone like Grant. We'd have to send back something as well to stay under

We wouldn't be combining the TPE and a player if the incoming player salary fit on its own into the TPE.

We can for example trade Winslow for Grant. It would be 2 trades from the Blazers point of view but 1 trade from Detroits.
