Sure it is and in game theory it's known as known as Mutual Assured Destruction (MAD).

An interesting exposè on game theory can be found in the internet with the brief description being:
"Game theory's development accelerated at a record pace during World War II. Though it was intended for economics, both the United States and the Soviet Union quickly saw its value for forming war strategies."

    https://science.howstuffworks.com/game-theory5.htm

    And at another place:

"Elizabeth Winkler: What is game theory?

Tim Roughgarden: Game theory is a field that involves reasoning mathematically about what happens when you have different actors who are strategic, who have different objectives, and what might happen when you have those actors in the same environment.

EW: Has it always been used to think about military strategy?

TR: The field has its roots in the 1920s. In some ways, there were mathematicians back then thinking about it in terms of poker and games of chance. But John von Neumann and Oskar Morgenstern’s book, “Theory of Games and Economic Behavior,” published in 1944, marked the birth of the field as an independent subject. Von Neumann also worked for U.S. think tanks in the context of Cold War strategy in the '40s and '50s, so game theory has really been used to think about military issues since the beginning of the field in the 1940s."

    Bizarro question:

If China and Russia were to somehow jointly declare war on the US, would these NATO countries lock arms with us to take them on?

I would add Ukraine to that list. Not a NATO country but they sure do hate the Russians.

I think yes, sort of. A war with the US would be instant world war and everyone would realize the need to take action for self preservation. So all those countries would pick a side. Most would chose our side, a few like Turkey might go the other way or try to abstain until they knew who the winner will be.

Nobody wants a world war though, especially with nuclear powers involved against each other. I think the most likely outcome is that China and Russia keep inching away at thier objectives as to not fully provoke a world war. For instance I think the Ukraine is fucked, and China is just waiting to see how easy it is for Russia to make a grab so they can do the same for Taiwan. Neither country will get full support but will get lots of covert support, so we could get locked into proxy wars, funding the defence of these countries but not doing anything official.

Follow up to my thoughts. It makes more sense for Russia and China to weaken the US to the point where they don't need to fight us. That can be done economically and through the propaganda game they have been playing. Nobody can agree on anything anymore. We have to get a hold of our social media somehow to be able to do anything. Best case for Russia is they just tinker in the background and keep building anti government groups to the point of internal resistance or all out civil war. I'm actually pretty worried about the 2024 election, no matter who wins the other side will not see it as legitimate. If that resentment goes to far and the police and military gets involved then we have a lot of problems. So why would China of Russia risk a nuclear war or their own troops when they can just wait us out. China especially has been very good at the follow through of multigenerational geopolitical plans.

Russia has been pretty fearless about using poisons and toxins to kill people around the world. I'm guessing that with someone's DNA you can make a poison or toxin to only target a specific person. So you can put it on water or food that many will consume but it will only kill the intended target.

Actually, only about half of them hate Russians. The other half hate the European Union.
