I watched Powell on the Clippers last night vs the Grizz. For every bucket he gets ya, he gives up a wide open lane on the other end. Be mad at the GTJ trade, but not a the one that undid the mistake.
At the very least, Joe has a plan that he is going after. Who knows if it works out, but there is a direction.
And he's going all in. None of this half-assed nonsense we see other GMs do. First trade was a disaster. Last two were fine.
Makes up for all the years we wanted something to happen during trade deadline, at very least we are players this year
We were never going to get a better player than Norm in a Norm trade. His contract was too much of a negative. Roco's reasonable contract was how we were able to deal Norm at all, IMO.
It was good for us because we didn't lose him for nothing and we were making a push for this season. Unfortunately that didn't work out and his deal is too long for teams to feel comfortable with. If we waited a year or two to trade him that deal wouldn't be bad at all. But teams don't want to commit to 5 years.
I disagree. He's a very good starter on a reasonable contract. Where are you getting your information? By all accounts, there was supposedly a lot of interest in Norm and RoCo going into the trade deadline.
I've heard multiple people say it. The one that comes to mind is John Hollinger. There were comparable players to Norm available with more team friendly deals. If there were better offers on the table I don't think Cronin would have taken a lesser offer. He's obviously not out here being lazy, considering all the moves he's making. Occam's razor...
Hollinger is a moron. He completely flopped as a GM. Cronin took a deal A FULL WEEK before the deadline. We have no idea what offers might have been there if we were closer to the deadline.
Exactly. You don't think the Clippers make that trade today vs. last week? I really did not understand the rush in getting that deal done.
Hollinger was never a GM, that's for sure. Not sure how one can flop at a job he never had. As for could Powell brought a better return - maybe, maybe not. He certainly was not a needle mover to anyone I could think of - so his salary and length of contract was at best non-negative. I think that given the mess that NeO left - trying to extract every bit of value from that - when there is a time limit on Dame clock was maybe not a realistic option - so when he got a chance to get some value for a contract that would walk away (RoCo) + a long contract on an ok player - he took it. Time will tell if it was right or not, but it was obvious that Portland would have to pay for all the NeO mistakes that accumulated over a decade.
I don’t think Cronin had the same view of the team as most around here. I don’t think he wanted a bunch of solid-but-not-star players that he could get in return for our similar guys that he sent out in his trades. My bet is that he sees Simons as a future All-Star that will be paired with Dame in the backcourt. Hart and Little make a nice rotation at SF. Nurk is likely to be re-signed at C. I think Joe is only looking for an All-Star caliber PF to complete his vision of the team. Whether that’s Grant, as has been rumored, or someone else, I bet he has a plan to get that player.
