I'm not buying into the "Olshey left the cupboard bare" like. What he acquired was a bunch of talented players who didn't fit well together. It was like a conglomerate. A corporate raider would come in and extract value by breaking up the corporation into individual companies. The sum of the individual parts were greater than the whole. We failed to get value for a bunch of our pieces. That's on Cronin and the front office, not on Olshey. His only blame is for garnering the pieces in the first place. So much just never fit on this team.
Looks like 'Cap Room' is going to have to score quite a bit, defend, rebound, and create quite a bit this summer.

Well I'm sure everybody in here would be fantastic GMs, but I also think Hollinger probably has more inside knowledge on player values than most in here. And he isn't the only person who has reported that... I think the deal was made when it was to maximize the potential of other deals.
After this tryout at the deadline, I don't see any way where he gets the job full time. Then again, our ownership exemplifies incompetence, so who knows.
He learned under Olshey Made trades that John Nash would’ve made Joe Cronin and Bert will keep Portland a doormat team.

Exactly. Norm might have got a better deal or he might not have. There was no reason to trade him last week without a meaningful asset coming back in return. We gave up the opportunity cost of a better deal today or in the future, and for virtually no benefit.
Maybe he just didn't fit well with Chauncy's style of play, it appears one of Joes goals was to get Chauncy players that will play his style. I tink he did that and obviously there is a lot more to do, a star was made IMO and it appears we will give Chauncy his chance
So the first deal was just about as horrible as it could have been, especially when we saw guys with worse production getting far more draft capitol and clearing salary in one for one deals. I mean, it's the worst trade I've ever seen us make. Two guys who can start on most teams in the league and could easily be the 4th or 5th best guy on a championship roster for Johnson and a 2025 second rounder. It's disgusting. I'd give it an F The CJ/Nance trade is a little more complicated. CJ didn't have the best contract but is a helluva offensive talent. Nance had to have a minor knee surgery and will be back reportedly in 6 weeks, so for the playoffs. Then he has another year on his contract at a very team friendly 9.7M... that has to have some value. So Hart, a first rounder that we need to get lucky to collect this off season... that's not really a good return on a guy like CJ who is a star player in this league just a tier below an all star and Nance who is a really solid role player for any squad. If you spin this one with the whole clearing cap space was our first priority then I would say it was just a minor loss. For sure the Pelicans got over on us but it wasn't too bad. I'd give it a C-/D+
