8:48 PM, Jul 21, 2019 COMMENTARY: Voting 4 Carol Swain is Voting 4 Racism, Homophobia, and Xenophobia Click here for updates on this story 06/21/2019 (The Nashville Voice Editorial Board) — As election day in Nashville quickly approaches many Nashvillians are still in the process of researching each candidate. We recently endorsed Mayor David Briley for reelection and listed our reasons for that decision. It is also the view of this Editorial Board that there is case for why Mayoral Candidate Carol Swain should not be elected as the next mayor of our city. Candidate Swain has a long history of disparaging remarks against Muslims, the LGBTQ community and even her own race of African Americans. Over the years she has made a career as the poster child for the far right movement in this country, appearing often on Fox News and CNN to represent the “black conservative voice”. We have gathered 10 quotes from Swain that prove she is the mouthpiece of Racism, Homophobia, and Xenophobia. Interview with The Daily Caller “As a black person, it bothers me that the America I know and love I feel like is being destroyed by [President Barack Obama] a black man. I don’t understand why.” Interview with The Birther Report “The changes that I think are so destructive to our Constitution and our American way of life is being led by someone [President Barack Obama] that’s not only a black man but he’s not even a native-born black man.” Tennessean Op-Ed “What would it take to make us admit we were wrong about Islam? What horrendous attack would finally convince us that Islam is not like other religions in the United States, that is poses an absolute danger to us and our children unless it monitored better than it has been under the Obama administration?” Interview with Erico Matias Tavares “Right now it is far easier to continue the mantra of blaming white people and slavery for the plight of blacks.” Interview with The Birther Report “There’s something terribly wrong in America and as a black person it bothers me that the America that I know and love is being destroyed by [President Barack Obama] a black man” From Swain’s 2011 book “Be The People” “We are being confronted with numerous national disasters and freak weather patterns. Could some of these occurrences be related to our decision to reject biblical injunctions against abortion, greed, homosexuality, fornication, and adultery? Accept the fact that no matter what Christians and other believers do, it may be too late to save the United States of America….As it stands, we do not know if judgment has been determined for our nation.” Speaking at the Family Research Council’s Values Voters Summit “If we must live side-by-side with gay couples in a culture with a strong crusading homosexual agenda, our only hope is to strengthen ourselves spiritually and intellectually for the battle that awaits us.” MSNBC Interview “And this Klan, David Duke endorsement or whatever you want to call it, I think that’s going to be a non-issue because people have said enough with political correctness and no candidate can totally control who supports that candidate. I think it would hurt Donald Trump [to disavow controversial endorsements] because he’s not into political correctness. If you’re trying to win, you’re trying to get votes from wherever they come.” Speaking on CNN “Because I believe that it’s [Black Lives Matters] been a very destructive force in America, and I urge all of your viewers to go to that website and look at what they’re really about. It’s a Marxist organization all about black liberation. It’s not really addressing the real problems affecting African-Americans and so it’s problematic, it’s misleading black people, it needs to go.” Infowars Interview “I believe that the Democratic party is clearly not the party that a lot of African Americans believe it is, they need to know it’s pure Marxism.
Right. You keep doing you. Which means doubling down on your own ignorance every time you’re called out. At least you’re consistent……
Did you happen to catch the name of this thread, and who started it? Effectively, this is a Ron DeSantis appreciation thread. I don't need a scolding from you as to what I should, or should not, be posting here.
The books ABM cites were written for white people. To reassure white people they don't need to change, society doesn't need to change. The problem isn't institutional and personal racism. The problem is Black people. Our Negroes are happy. It's just rabble trying to stir them up. That is very old. During American Revolution, a minority wanted to end slavery along with British rule. It's just radicals like Tom Paine stirring them up. Later, our Negroes benefit from enslavement. It's just those radical abolitionists like Frederick Douglass stirring things up. During reconstruction. And the years of reaction that followed its overthrow. Problem wasn't the new slavery in all but name, or lynching. Just crazy radicals like WEB DuBois. In the 50s and 60s, our Negroes are happy. It's that dangerous Martin Luther King. Now it's Black Lives Matter and so called critical race theory, which has become shorthand for any teaching about racism. If Black people would shut up, not have sex outside hetero marriage, and vote for Republicans who will ban abortion and overturn marriage equality, they wouldn't get shot by cops. And DeathSantis is helping lead the charge to ban anything that makes any white person uncomfortable.
If it’s a Ron DeSantis “appreciation” thread, then why are you promoting ignorant propaganda that has nothing to do with that clown? You set yourself up for failure time and time again. And yeah, you DO need a scolding for what you post, as it is seriously offensive to more than a few people on this board. But you don’t give one rat’s ass, do you? Because it is exactly what you set out to accomplish. “Oooooh, did I do that? Oops.” Other posters have been banned for less. I am so fucking tired of willful ignorance from people who should know better.
Sure black conservatives need to be part of the discussion in this country about racism but your discounting everyone else's opinion and only accepting theirs. That's wrong. You're trying to pick a winner in all of this again, That's wrong.
Also, racism in this country is not a democrat and Republican issue. But let's play your worldview game, was Jesus, a conservative or a liberal?
You are ready to praise any Black person who identifies as "conservative" even if they are wife beaters, or nuts who claim moon landing never happened, or anti-Semites. All they have to do is say "Christian Republican". Have you ever read a book out of your worldview? Have you read anything by Nikole Hannah-Jones or Ta-Nehisi Coates? Novels of Toni Morrison? Poetry of bell hooks? Have you read essays of Frederick Douglass? You talk a lot about critical race theory being Marxist (it's not) but have you read a word of Marx? When I was in high school a classmate told me if I read the Book of Revelation it would convince me the US should be a Christian country. I told him I would read Revelation if he read Communist Manifesto. I kept up my end of the bargain but he said reading an atheistic book was against his religion. Funny how weak the faith of so called Christians is. I later read the entire Christian bible. Found it boring.
Wrong. Others are stating their opinions, and I'm stating mine. The difference is, I'm the one being called out for stating mine. There are stark differences in these conversations. As Minstrel likes to say, let's just agree to disagree.
I highly doubt you'd read anything by Carol M. Swain. You also have no interest in the Bible. You won't be changing my world view. I doubt I'd change yours. As I mentioned above, we can agree to disagree and call it a day. PS; There are others on this board who may very well happen to like Ron DeSantis. This thread is just as much for them as it is for anyone else.
That's a fallacious and disingenuous equation. No I'm not prejudiced at all. Just pointing out a fact.
Then what do you mean that there aren't many Black Conservatives and I should take what I can get? Should that even matter? Are they lesser because of lack of numbers?
I mean what I said, that there aren't very many. The majority of Black voters identify as liberal or independent leaning liberal. The percentage went up a smidge under Trump. I don't feel that those who support him or his views have what's best in mind for black people in general.
I just said I read the Christian bible. Just found it boring. And read Torah and Tanach. Can you answer my question?
Learning about history is not the same as finger wagging shame tactics... Denying the right to teach history in our schools is morally corrupt.
