Is this a pattern only in the USA or are other countries experiencing similar numbers?

    USA Only: OMG, CONSPIRACY! :NOTMARIS:

Other countries similar: OMG, NO CONSPIRACY!

    Infection rates are going down.

Hospital occupency rates are going down.

The numbers show it's time to ease off the restrictions and mandates.

One more time ... coming out of cold/flu/covid season, yes the numbers should be plummeting, but save me the polly anna thinking that these politicians aren't doing it for their own numbers as well. Two things can be true at the same time!

Yes, there are politicians that have and are using covid for personal gain and "numbers". This has happened throughout this entire pandemic. Is it logical according to scientific data to reduce or eliminate some mandates? Yes.

I not a full blow conspiracy theorist, just see the world for what it is. Sorry if I'm not naïve to think that anything these politicians are doing is any thing other than self preservation. People like the one above are idiots just as much as the people who think that nothing is ever connected.

Ok, so I am putting you in the 'believes mandates should be left intact and in effect longer' category. Thanks.

Yes but the resources and personnel required to deal with these higher infection rates are lower because of the vaccines.

They probably should be. As we have been down this road before. There will be other variants, Some will be stronger and some weaker. They will always come out with new articles or tweets about how we can get rid of covid but the truth is there are too many idiots out there to actually put an end to this pandemic. The good news is that we do have the vaccines but vaccinating the whole world is impossible. But I guess the weather is warming up.

You mean exactly as was predicted pretty much the whole time?

Yeah... It was always going to be a "bad winter, but should be better by spring/summer".

LA has the strictest COVID19 restrictions in the country, and pretty much has all along. And just hosted the superbowl

Strict restrictions don't matter if many people do not follow them.

They why even have them? They don't seem to be doing a lick of difference.

Fine by me … I’m fully vaxed and boostered but still rock a mask in public indoor spaces 95% of the time, including when I’m teaching and I live in the red state of Texas. We’ve seen the numbers let up and then they come back, so why the rush to ditch the mandates? Are they truly ‘following the science’ or is there something else to gain?

Yes it should be worse in the winter months but sorry if I find this sudden rush to ditch all mandates a little fishy. I mean politicians are all altruistic and never think only of themselves, right? Here’s something no one ever says on these boards, I MIGHT BE WRONG, but something just doesn’t smell right.
