I'm pretty sure we can trade Dame to the Sixers any time we want and get more back than just Ben Simmons. I would assume that we could get Simmons, Thybulle and the Sixers first rounder. That might not even be the best deal we could get for Dame. I think the Celtics might give us better pieces. The fact is that the front office has decided or at least they're saying that they've decided to build around Dame.

If I was going to do that, my priority in these trades would have been getting back talent that was equal to or even a little less than what we were sending out that better complemented Dame. If I couldn't get the right talent back I definitely would have prioritized getting picks back along with cap relief knowing that even if I couldn't have cleared as much cap space the picks I collected could make getting a targeted player easier than some extra cap space.

The fact is that Cronin decided (very obviously) that his number one priority by a long shot was just clearing cap space and that getting some draft compensation or a cheap prospect back was fine to. I read earlier today that sources inside of other front offices said that they weren't even contacted by our front office about some of the players moved and that they could have offered more specifically for Norm and RoCo in separate deals that would have cleared the cap space and they would have beaten what the Clippers gave us in draft compensation by a lot. Now maybe the report I was reading was full of shit, maybe the front office sources were just trying to make us look bad but given when the deal came together and what a head scratcher it was, I just don't doubt it.

I think the CJ/Larry trade might have been more complicated because CJ's contract wasn't a desired one even if his skill set was. So we may have needed to sacrifice Larry for nothing just to get CJ moved and the value we did get back for him.

To me it seems that before the team decided to go in this direction that keeping Dame and building a more complementary team around him was the best option from both a competitive and business standpoint. After clearing all of that salary but not collecting the assets to make unbalanced trades for big time talent, trying to build a win now complementary team around Dame seems to me to be a fools errand but what do I know, Joe Cronin has been doing this shit a long time, he seems like a smart guy and maybe he's seeing something I don't. I guess we'll find out most likely in six long months.

They are going to try it no matter what. It's a disservice to Dame if they don't. Plus I'm SURE Dame is itching to see it through. Ant is his protege. Just hope that Dame and Ant can muster enough effort on defense to make it work. Offensively, they are going to be absolutely unstoppable.

AGREED. Dame has plainly stated he's all in on Billups. And it's obvious Chauncey played a big part in crafting this roster. Just need that PF.

I think people calling for Dame to be traded are being loopy

how about seeing what Dame is like next season and if he and Simons and Hart can develop a real synergy? A lot of the 'doubts' about Dame seem to be based upon him being uncoachable...that he wouldn't buy into what Billups is selling. Has Dame ever been accused of being uncoachable? Has Dame ever been "me first" over his team?

10 months ago Dame averaged 34 & 10 in the playoffs while carrying an assist/turnover ratio of 4.7. He posted a PER of 30.4 and a TS% of .660. He lead all NBA playoff performers in winshare/48, OBPM, and BPM. You don't give up and discard that because of unfounded theories about how he'd fit...on his own team

    This is a different coach.

    It’s a different system.

    It’s a different roster.

This isn’t Dames team anymore. Half these dudes have never played with him, or they barely played with him. This is Ants team right now. This team. This roster. This system belongs to Ant.

Dame will be the outsider coming back. He will be the guy who has to figure out how to fit in. It’s not going to be some seamless transition. Those numbers were put up in Stottsball. That’s not how we play anymore.

Yep. A lot of our losses early this season were Dame shooting us out of games 0/8, 0/9 etc trying to find his groove. Dame’s awesome but no more chucking 35 foot shots over and over trying to be the hero.

Why won't it work? Completely different players in Ant and C.J. Ant is already a better defender than CJ, and his body will continue to mature and he will put on more muscle. Dame can also play off the ball a good bit and does well when he plays off the ball, remember when we had Mo Williams and Dame? Since then we haven't even had a good back up PG or etc. Can't just say it will be the same shit when Ant is completely different than CJ.

and if Dame can't see the huge benefits of "Chauncy ball" and pushing the ball hard and the results we are seeing then things will become obvious, ad if he does adapt then it gets very interesting

Dame and his "coachability" I think is at least a valid discussion as he played for Stotts most of his career, and Stotts really IMO did not coach besides handing Dame the ball and say go getem. He could not get guys to buy into whatever defense he was attempting and some of that was Olshey fault as well. Billups wants guys to play the way he wants them to play and the guys are buying in and we have acquired guys that play his way and jettisoned those that don't - we'll see how it works with Dame.

Dame will step in with this new team and provide that iso half court play that is needed in the playoffs.
