I actually think Putin might have bitten off more than he can chew with Ukraine, there is a very real chance that Russia cant afford an occupation and regime change. Add sanctions to the list and Russia could be in serious financial trouble. More advancement into other countries might not be a real option for them.

There are several that are now members of NATO and I don't see him taking those countries on, at this point anyway as he knows all hell would break loose. As long as he can have Ukraine as a buffer, with puppet gov, he will may be content?

I'm just saying the people in charge better be fucking paying attention to the bigger picture. It's not hard to see what Putin is up to and what he is planning.

Working to destabilize the U.S. via cyber attacks, fucking with our elections by utilizing our own social media against us.

Trumps administration even admitted Russia was commiting cyber attacks against us and Trump still was buddy buddy with Putin, singing his praises.

Gaining a hell of a footing on the geo political map with the middle east and now Ukraine.

I know sending in troops would be devestating. It could start WWIII

Part of me wonders if that's what Putin (conspiring with China?) is actually steering towards.

Probably just cheap oil for China is all. China is quite happy to let everyone tear themselves apart while they sit on the sidelines and watch.

If they want to eradicate western ways with their new world order, they may start/try. They see democracy as a real threat to their tyrannical order.

Crazy, crazy times. I'm sorry, I don't trust our current leader's ability to navigate the storm. Conversely, though, ultra scary to think what orange might be doing at this point in time.

you must have missed biden's speech essentially mimicking Bojo's word for word this morning (who parroted Macron's statements also), but keep your blinders on... i guess.

At the end of WWI Germany was defeated and the allies divided up territory that had been part of Germany, Austria-Hungary and Russia into a bunch of new countries, one of which was Poland and another was Czechoslovakia.

Hitler hated these new nations which he thought of as artificial creations of the allies, and which had significant German populations in both. Hitler then used a manufactured concern for their welfare as a pretext to demand territorial concessions. In the Munich Agreement, British Prime Minister Neville Chamberlain agreed to let Hilter annex Sudetenland, portions of Czechoslovakia with ethnic-German majorities. Chamberlain thought he had averted a massive European war, but it only delayed the conflict and made Hitler more powerful when the war finally came.

This helped convince Hitler that the British/French wouldn't seriously resist further annexations to his east, and correctly calculated that he could conquer Poland before the allies could stop him.

Hitler invaded Poland because he knew Poland wasn't powerful enough and correctly believed that Europe's other military powers wouldn't intervene in time. Once Poland was conquered the western allies felt less pressure to attack Germany quickly. They were also still dealing with memories of World War I, so they hesitated to launch into a second continent-wide war with little apparent strategic purpose. Some in Britain/France still hoped a solution could be found without the loss of millions of lives again. It was only after German tanks streamed into France that they fully accepted what was happening.

Reading some of the narrative from so-called Conservatives in Congress is wild. There is more praise and support for Putin than respect for Biden.

I guess that shouldn't be surprising. Most conservative ideals align fairly closely with Putin's agenda.

Hard to say. It's a salient question. That said, we're dealing with a crazed, somewhat unpredictable, "try and stop me" tyrant. It will take a unified effort from the NATO community....and may very well involve troops across the board.

Putin is a murderer. Already witnessing that within the last 24 hours. Why am I so sadly reminded of this clip from Kubrick's Full Metal Jacket?
