Keeping our pick? This might be a Lottery year

Discussion in 'Portland Trail Blazers' started by TBpup, Dec 5, 2021.

?

Make the pick for the Future.....or trade it for 'now'?

  1. One last attempt

  2. Build for the future....one player won't make enough of a difference

  3. Get bad enough to where the pick makes an immediate impact

Keep your eyes on the Detroit Pistons! The Pistons are now 16-47 for the season, but have won 4 of their last 6 games, beating Boston, Cleveland, Charlotte and Toronto (tonight). 3 of those wins were on the road.
Although unlikely, if the Pistons beat Portland in Detroit, and win 8 other games out of the other 18 remaining, (assuming the Blazers lose all remaining games) they would be tied with the Trail Blazers at 25-57 and win the tiebreaker because of a better conference record.
If this happens, Portland could end up with the 3rd worst record in the NBA.
I don't expect this will happen, but it's worth following.

Hard to see Portland losing all their remaining games. That would be a 23 game losing streak. That's 10 more than the longest losing streak in Blazer history

Would that make us 7th in all time winning percentage? Currently 6th.

Has there ever been this bad of an active roster in Blazer history?

    Yes.

Charles ‘Spider’ Smith was our starting 2 guard.

Have the trailblazers ever lost three games in a row by 30 points or more?

Adding to this, announcers were saying:

“He’s one of the best PERIMETER players I’ve ever seen!”

Holmgren isn’t playing SF anytime soon (ever).

these were the primary starters in 2005-06:

    Zach Randolph
    Steve Blake
    Juan Dixon
    Joel Przybilla
    Viktor Khryapa

that team won 21 games over an 82 game season. That team was riddled with injuries, like the current team. That team also had the infamous
Ha Seung-Jin as a backup. But he was behind Brian Skinner on the depth chart. That says a lot about the quality of that team

I barely remember him, but it looks like he was only on the team one year and that squad wasn't even close in comparison to what we're rolling out right now.

That roster is more talented than the current team's active roster, so you really have to break it down to chunks of the season when players weren't available for it to be meaningful, with regards to your comment about the likelihood of this group getting skunked the rest of the way.

Idk if its a lack of talent, the current squad is just completely undersized. In the three games since the break, they've been outrebounded by double digits in every single game. They dont have anyone over 6'9 in the rotation. No chance of competing with that disparity.

I really think when the twentieth of this month comes and the opponents get a lot worse, we'll find a reason to sit Hart for the rest of the season.

Simons, Johnson, Elleby, Brown, Eubanks, Hughes, Watford, Williams, Blevins playing all of the minutes for those last three weeks of the season.

I just look at how the team has performed in the last three games and compare it to how the teams with worse records are playing. It doesn't look likely that the Blazers would be able to beat them. Maybe they'll win a game against Houston in Portland?

over the last 37 games of the season, that team went 4-33. That's nearly half a season and that winning rate would translate to a 9-73 record over an entire year. That's a damn big sample size for comparing active rosters.

look, all I'm saying is that the current team ending the season with a 23 game losing streak is very unlikely. They will grab a win somewhere because they are going to be playing several games against other tanking teams.

I've been watching a bunch of old draft lottery videos.

wonder who we send on our behalf to rep us on the front of the stage.

-Cronin's got the interim title, so ya never know.
    -Jody is too disconnected.
-Ant is technically going to be a RFA.
-Dame is probably too too disengaged with the drama.

My best guess is Chauncey. Oh God, please not Bert Kolde.

Historically, we sent Steve Patterson in 06, Brandon Roy in 07, Wes Matthews in 2012, Dame in 2013.
