I have... and I know certain topics that would absolutely break her heart, but I would have gone up to Chris after the break and told him that was too far and he should apologize. I can understand being blindingly angry though. It has really only happened to me one time in my life. I was like 12 years old, we had just had an epic snow that lasted a week and I was snowed in at a friends house. He and I were building a snow fort in the front yard and we were using dull knives and tools to shape the ice. A group of kids showed up, one of them was a kid that had bullied me in the past. They started throwing snowballs at us. That's fine.... until the bully tagged me in the side of the head with an ice ball. It actually knocked me off my feet. I remember laying there in the snow, my eyes stinging from the blow, and something just snapped in my head. I don't remember making any kind of decision. Next thing I remember I'm chasing the kid down the street with one of the dull kitchen knives. He was screaming bloody murder as he ran from me. What finally snapped me out of it was a neighbor opening a window and yelling that they would call the cops if we didn't knock it off. It's weird to experience something where you completely lose control with rage. Luckily I didn't actually follow through with it and I was able to come to my senses, but I honestly completely lost control for a couple minutes. It has only happened one time in my life, but it was scary as hell.

When you're trying to provoke a reaction you don't get to pick the reaction.

Yup. Especially when it has to do with a medical condition.

The reaction he was trying to provoke was the reaction Will Smith had to the joke until he saw his wife's face... laughter.

You don't walk on stage and hit the guy. Not a good example. Very classless joke but you can't do that.

You do and can when someone talks shit about your wife and it just so happens to be about her medical condition. It doesn't matter if its a "joke." Chris Rock knew was he was doing.

He’s a comedian. Not all jokes land.. You aren’t actually pretending that Will Smith was justified? I mean, you aren’t alone or anything, I’m just surprised.

I saw it and immediately thought,”Fuck Will Smith.” Instantly. If he thinks it’s fucked up maybe don’t laugh or seek out an apology later or say something to the press afterwards or even during your speech. Instead, he essentially sucker-slapped an amazing comedian, like someone unhinged.

Don't talk shit about someone's medical condition. That's not an ok joke to make. Hope Rock learned his lesson. Comedy has no place for that.

Will Smith laughed... because it wasn't serious shit-talking. Again, Will Smith laughed. It was a bad joke. She's not the first one who has ever gotten their feelings hurt at an awards show. You don't go around hitting people every time they say something stupid. You take your award and then go talk shit about Chris Rock. And btw, there are medical conditions and then there are medical conditions. Have you seen Jada Pickett Smith? Her medical condition is to look like that?! Oh the horror. Put on a wig if you're self-conscious about being attractive. Chris Rocks kids didn't need to see their dad get assaulted. Anyone else is in jail because you know... laws.

Just because she is a beautiful woman doesn't mean she isn't insecure about her medical condition. It doesn't matter. At the end of the day he did a low blow on someones medical condition. Comedy has no place for that. Hopefully Rock learned his lesson.

Getting your feelings hurt is one thing. Making fun of someone about a medical condition is something else.

Have you never fake laughed at something and then realized it wasn't funny?

Also his wife never laughed. Wouldn't surprise me if he saw the hurt in her eyes and then turned into the protector role.

Bottom line. You are a dick if you make fun of someones medical condition.

Like I said, it was a classless joke.

The actual bottom line is that one was a joke that I'm sure wasn't meant to provoke such a response from her, and the other was walking on stage at the Oscars to slap the host and then yell obscenities. If you think that's a good example to set for kids then we disagree.

I think it was a good lesson for everyone in the ableist society we live in. Don't be an asshole and make fun of someones medical condition. Stand up to bullies even if it was a "joke"

I'll correct someone elses child if I see them doing that to anyone else with a disability.

She’s going bald. I’m going fucking bald. Whatever. So if Mel Gibson had slapped Ricky Gervais for mocking his disease, it would have been justified? Ha.

Not an okay joke? First off, Will Smith laughed, then saw Jada’s reaction. But the joke didn’t land, sure. The thing about comedy is that it’s a self-regulating craft. There’ll will be some misses and the audience will let them know about them…just usually without violence.

You aren't a woman going bald from alopecia. Not the same thing. Pretty common for a white dude to make it about himself though.

It's 2022. Making fun of peoples medical conditions should be long gone from our society.

Oh, I didn't know the condition was "a physical or mental condition that limits a person's movements, senses, or activities." The bully is the one who resorted to violence, the other was just an unfunny comedian.

You can lash out but you are saying that it is reasonable to assault someone over a bad joke.

And maybe Chris Rock doesn’t know about her condition.
