If we have the opportunity to draft Shaedon Sharpe (or even Ivey) and go for a PF cUz NeEd then you can add that to the list of mistakes.

I agree. Draft for talent. Trade for need.

Maybe I phrased it wrong: I meant "trading youth for win-now players". That very rarely works out, but it's what you do if you think your star player is getting impatient.

Part of my point is that the problem the choices should have never been between aquire sub-optimal talent vs drafting and developing. Olshey mismanaged our 2016 and 2017 assests pretty bad and from then on we were playing with a light deck.

It works if they are actually win-now players. If you lose, they were never win-now players. They were just bad players.

Especially when the win now players aren't win now players.

    The Clippers disagree.

RoCo and Nance were actually pretty damn good acquisitions of their kind, given the position we were in. When you're in that position, though, YOU DON'T TRADE YOUR DRAFT PICKS. Draft picks are the only way teams like us (small market, not going to get FAs) rebuild.

So you think the Clippers and Pelicans made mistakes trading draft picks to us?

    I'm not following your stance.

I disagree with this slightly. Our worst mistake wasn’t trying to build around Dame. Our worst mistake was HOW WE CHOSE to build around Dame

The Clips - no, because THEY'RE NOT A TEAM LIKE US. They get FAs because they're in LA and they have Steve Fucking Ballmer as their owner.
The Pelicans - yes. They've got short term success, but (sorry CJ) I don't fancy their chances over the next five or so years (unless Zion has a major lifestyle and mentality change, but then they would've succeeded without CJ).

Yeah this thread is a trolling joke. Obviously we should have tried to build around Dame and the mistake was trying to build around Dame and CJ for so damn long. I don't have a problem with a team that has a superstar, using their picks to upgrade positions around that superstar... of course that works, look at the Bucks. So in short, another thread just for the sake of you posting another thread.

The biggest mistake we've made in the lillard era is the 2017 draft, IMO. Most other moves we could have survived from. With hindsight, that draft could have put ideal pieces around lillard to win now. Or could have been traded to win now. Instead, it's the opposite of a win now move around dame. We took a project big.
