You'd really want Simons on your team? I'm surprised.

I think 6 is a significant overpay for wood.

Wood is considered a negative on defense. If you're trading 6, you find a way to get Ben Simmons or Siakam. The possibilities are there.

That's probably true right now because Poole is a good fit for their team. That said, the undervaluing of Simons by some folks on this board is insane. Ant and Poole are comparable players in a lot of ways except that Ant is a much better 3Pt shooter than Poole (40.5% vs 36.4% this season). But you have to factor in that Poole plays alongside guys like Curry, Thompson and Wiggins, who draw a whole lot more defensive attention than what Simons has been playing with this season. In the 9 games after the McCollum trade, when Ant carried the load of being the prime scorer and was getting doubled like Dame does, he averaged more than 25 PPG and about 5 assists. The guy is just coming into his own and he's going to be a star, IMO.

Is it undervaluing or wanting to have someone here who can slide in when dame finally enters his post-prime?

That's a different question. I'm simply responding to all of this Poole is better than Simons crap.

As far as your question goes, I'd like to see a few games with Dame and Ant as the starting backcourt before forming an opinion. Ant and CJ are not the same player.

Edit: Oops...I answered the question I expected you to be asking, not what you actually wrote. So, are you saying that you don't think Ant can slide into the lead PG role when Dame starts aging?

    yeah probably

what would have been better: the 11th pick and all of the TPE for Grant; Or, the 11th and 13.7M of the TPE for Wood still leaving a 7.1M TPE?

Probably 1st option because Blazers need a solid wing in the worst way. Wood is a much better shooter and rebounder though

I didn’t say they play the same way
They’re both big dudes who crumble under pressure
    Front runners who disappear

I want to make it clear I wasn't saying Poole is better than Simons. I was saying Simons is not better than Poole at this time

Simons is a better 3 point shooter, but Poole is a better overall shooter/scorer because Simons has some CJ-itis in that he doesn't get to the FT line or do well at the rim. Poole does. Simons has a small edge in assist rate while Poole has a slightly better assist/possession mark. Poole is a better rebounder. And from what I've seen he's a better defender although much of that may be system and teammates

they are the same age but Poole has a year left on his rookie deal. I'd imagine both teams are satisfied with their guys and wouldn't trade

In other words, it would actually benefit Portland to sign Dame to an extension now under the current cap and TV deals because when the new media deals kick in, it could be a 200M salary cap

In other words, why would Jody sell and Golden Goose laying golden eegs?
And if the league expands the teams each get Golden pay days.

Wood can definitely play PF and has had real success at that position. I don't know if he pairs too well with a C like Nurk who rely's on his size a lot and isn't the most explosive athletically, that would be a pretty big front court that wouldn't be the fastest because although Wood can play PF he isn't the most athletically gifted guy at that position. I definitely don't think given his health and fit that he would be worth the 6th pick. I also think the Rockets would lose their shit in the best of ways for them if they could get the sixth pick and both the upside and smaller salary it would bring for Wood but maybe I'm wrong.

Getting one of those two with the 6th pick would be fucking fantastic... I think you have to be looking to trade Bledsoe, Hart and the 6th for either one of them and I've already said I'd be willing to do that. Siakam is the easier plug and play guy but Simmons has the higher upside and is the bigger risk.

Unless it's one of those extensions tied to the cap like some max deals.

I feel like Brooklyn would almost definitely trade us Simmons for the #6. Ben's value has absolutely cratered. I think it's possible we can get him for less to be honest. Not sure Toronto would be willing to part with Siakam for 6 but I think there's a shot and a conversation to be had there.
