I would have preferred another GM, although I don't know who...

but I have said that while fans may have not liked the trades he made, I was betting the Vulcans loved the trades....and they are the ones hiring

"Cronin's strong relationship with first-year coach Chauncey Billups played a significant part in the franchise's belief that there will be a philosophical alignment moving them forward together in basketball operations." -Woj

Thats one of the things that always bothered me about Olshey/Stotts. It seemed like there was little collaboration, sometimes it felt like Olshey didn't even know what type of players Stotts preferred. Billups is an asset, so him having more influence is a good thing imo. Remember, at one point he was headed down the front office route and there was at least one team in the league that was ready to hand him all the keys.

At least we know now....really going to interesting in what he does with Anf & Nurk.
Billups will get the draft choice he wants....if we dont trade it?

to me, it seemed that at least twice if not more, when Olshey had a player he really favored he would essentially clear the roster of meaningful competition for that player's minutes.

Yuck. Does anyone think he'll actually win a trade with any of the league's GMs after the embarrassment that was the trade deadline?

He's a guy they're going to want to take advantage of. Like blood in water.

Y'know, it's kind of funny that I'm also a Minnesota Vikings fan. They have a new GM who made 6 trades at the NFL draft. The consensus review is that they got what they wanted, but they mostly got poor value according to generally accepted standards, and that he probably set himself a precedent to get low offers on future trades based on what he accepted in his first bunch of deals.

    Sounds familiar...

I agree. And that's a big reason I think this is a good move. Joe and Chauncey respect each other & will build a complete roster that fits Chauncey's coaching style. We haven't had that collaboration in a long time.

The only surprise here is the length of the contract. They never really interviewed for this opening from all the reporting I've read.

If I was a GM I'd try to fleece him more than I would other GMs. Look for every trade to be an overpay.

Serious question: why? What has he done to earn the job that they would promote him without even interviewing other candidates?

I really don’t get the disconnect with some of you.
We wanted to clear money and not take money back in these trades…that’s what we accomplished.
There are reports out there that there were “better offers” on the table for some of these guys. Do we really think Cronin and billups were like na we’ll take the shitty offer?
We made moves that accomplished what we set out to do. Now it’s time to rebuild it.
None of us know the value of any of our assets. Let it all play out.
FYI if we didn’t take like we did we wouldn’t have the 6th best odds at the #1 pick. People seem to forget that. Our lottery pick is also a product of the trades as well

I'm good with it. I didn't think they'd be able to find anybody better, and Joe strikes me as a very calculated and deliberate person.

I'm happier with this hire than if they'd brought in the next John Nash.
