Is this a "Both teams played hard." type of thing? Why do we lose if we get Grant? I think we lose if we get Grant and don't also add another good forward with him but you're acting like having Grant on your team is a net negative. Is that what you think?
Jerami Grant has never been on a Finals team. He’s also a terrible shooter. No better than Covington. Look, I’m not against him being on our team in some role. But not on a max contract.
No one said anything about a max contract. The $25m/year is an over pay, but still no where near a $35+m max contract
25M a season for Jerami Grant is 9M less than what his max is what he's publicly asked for and that was to stay in a situation like Detroit is 28M a season which is still 6M per season less than his max. He's not a worse shooter than RoCo either. The dude takes far different shots than RoCo ever has. He takes contested shots right now and he takes shots off the dribble. If he was on this team he would be getting the shots RoCo was getting and hitting them at an even higher clip plus if he were to be closed out on he can take the ball past his defender and score going to the hoop. He also makes the right pass. You've got to look at the numbers and their context. All of that said, what does it matter we either will get him for a horrible overpay, we'll get him for a decent price or we won't get the guy and none of us has shit to do with it. I want him on this team for a reasonable price. As I've said I want to trade the 7 for Wood and 17, then trade 17 and Bledsoe for Grant and if needs be add in up to the Bucks 2025 first. I think Wood and Grant would be by far the best forward combination we've had since Nic and LaMarcus. Oh and I forgot that the Nuggets team he was on only went to the conference finals and lost to the eventual champion Lakers but he did have some success during that playoff run.
Dame liking a tweet proposing 7 for Grant and Dort. https://www.reddit.com/r/ripcity/comments/utelqg/dame_seems_to_be_a_fan_of_a_hypothetical_trade/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf&utm_term=link please no.
Would be fine, if we were also able to deal Simons for another starting forward. Dort is better than Ant, IMO, and a much better fit alongside Dame.
I wouldn't go that far but what you didn't mention is that Portland has been so fucking bad at forward that Grant would be significantly better than any they have had since Aldridge. Portland desperately needs help at wing. Just not at the cost of the 7th pick for Grant
my immediate thought was that Dort can't shoot, and he can't. Then I thought of doing this comparison: obviously, Smart is a much better passer and facilitator but the rest of their numbers are pretty similar. Still, though he's physical he is another short guard weren't you saying just a few days ago you wanted Portland to add length and shooting? Dort is neither
I'm fine with Dame wanting Grant, but I'm not necessarily fine with the team giving up a lotto pick for him. THe team couldn't even get a fucking lotto pick for CJ.
Nas/Mil pick/EB for Grant Murray at 7 This is the way. Dame/Ant/Grant/Murray/Nurk I want Duren but if this plays out I’d be happy.
I don't think OKC is giving up Dort to move up five spots in this draft but if they did and we sent the 12th pick to Detroit for Grant I wouldn't be too pissed off. Dort is a really talented player. We would again be playing a really small lineup around Nurk and I don't like that but we could see how that went and then obviously make a trade when we saw that it didn't work out. Most likely it would be Ant going out because Dort is a really great player to put next to Dame in Chauncey's system. Again, I don't think OKC would be interested at all and it's definitely not the deal I want to be made but if it is, it won't be the end of the world. We'd be adding much needed talent that we know is solid to this roster that is starving for talent. I want a better fit than Dort and Grant would be and I have to think that Cronin would too. Take solace in the fact that this trade idea is just that and not a sourced rumor and Dame is probably just liking the idea of getting established talent in here instead of a draft pick.
Yep, giving up a lotto pick for an expiring, unless that expiring is like Kevin Durant, LeBron James (closer to his prime) or Steph CUrry, sure...but Jerami Grant? Only a drunken idiot with the IQ of smegma would do that. Ooh lord, we're boned.
Not the worst trade (tho while I'd rather con them into someone else, Little hasn't shown he's a keeper just yet). Can Portland get Grant without trading EB? Not because I want to keep him, just curious...because if I'm Detroit I'd rather have an asset instead of EBs contract just to waive and pay him 4 million. I.e., take back another player (Hughes, Johnson, etc) instead of the privilege of waiving EB.
