Well the team is profitable here and the NBA is looking to expand, so the odds would be very slim that the NBA would allow that.

I still don't think they'll sell until the new TV deal is done and I think that the deal won't be agreed to until some time in 2024. So, I think we can look forward to penny pinching and a lack of interest in really competing from ownership for the next couple of seasons. Unless a potential buyer wants to get ahead of the spike in the price and offers the most a team has sold for by quite a bit, despite it being in a small market.

Hello. I tend to agree, but cant help but think the worst of this cursed franchise. It would break my heart if they moved.

    it was his summary.

but there is no way the NBA allows a team entrenched in a community for over 50 yrs with undying fan support, that is still making $ to relocate. There are far more likely candidates to move than the Blazers.

Well, this one just isn't worth worrying about. The Sonics/Thunder fiasco looked terrible for the league and they just wouldn't let someone do that to them again with a franchise that's making money where they're at.

Nba teams don’t move anymore unless it’s a major disaster of support and draining money

I don't see why a TV deal matters. New owners would have to pay for that expected additional revenue if the team was sold now.

Thank you. I certainly hope so. I hope we get an owner much like PA who is willing to spend. Id almost prefer the team move over a stingy owner who wont lift us out of the middle of the pack though.
These are indeed interesting times for this team. The next year or so could drive the direction of the franchise for the next decade or two.

Larry Ellison. Yuck. Might be time to denounce my interest in the team if that happens.

what's wrong with ellison? any scandals or the like? I only know of him from Oracle/GSW. He'd prolly be the richest owner in the league.

I think it's a matter of actually guaranteed revenue versus projected revenue. Guaranteed revenue will always be worth more. Like I said, some potential buyer might try to get ahead of that spike in price and barely undercut what it will be in two years but Jody and the Vulcans might be smart to either make sure they know just how much the league is able to get out of broadcasters or let the market be set by another team, so they can maximize how much they get. If they weren't waiting for the value of the team to jump, they would have gotten rid of it soon after Mr. Allen died. The TV deal is the only logical reason they're holding onto it.

Other than plotting to overturn the recent elections, his company is one that I have seen work hard to ruin competitors and customers alike over the years in ways that make Microsoft and Facebook look like a bunch of choir boys.

A new ownership would be in line for expansion huge bucks from each new team.

If any city government could fuck it up, it would be Portland's. Think about who you vote for in the next few years

As successful as Oracle is, it never managed to overtake all the different companies it tried to fight or sue or both, be it Microsoft (failed), Google (failed), SAP, Amazon etc...

So, ruthless, sure, winner? Every NBA team owner is a winner and every NBA player is a winner for being in the NBA, but a winner within the top echelon of the NBA? I would not build on it. I suspect that any team that is run the way Oracle is run would be hated by it's customers (fans), employees (players) and competitors (other NBA teams). Fuck that.

Is Larry Ellison the most likable guy? No. That's probably why the league's owners haven't voted to accept his bids for at least 3 teams. However, I would absolutely LOVE to have Ellison as the new owner. He would love nothing more than to stick it to all of the other owners for preventing him from owning a team for this long.

Also, he would the the richest owner of a professional sports team in the WORLD.

Ask Phoenix Suns fans if they think Robert Sarver is a winner.
