I guess parents could attend school with their kids every day, so that they could shoot the shooter when the time comes.

Heck, they might even learn something while they are there.

Plus, how are we supposed to know who the real assailant is?

granted, in this case this was an elementary school and he was 18, but maybe he worked there as an assistant? Maybe he was a custodian?

Think of the cases when trained police arrest the wrong person? They're under a stressful situation, and *trained*. So now imagine teachers dealing with that? What if they react incorrectly and shoot the wrong kid? or maybe a kid dresses similarly to the shooter and they think it's him or her?

If this guy didn't buy these guns and ammo as easily as he did, maybe he doesn't kill his grandmother, maybe he doesn't gun down kids in a school.

Did he need help? clearly he did...but maybe we should be open to making it damn near impossible for certain people to get guns.

No thanks. We've now been given another reason that we can't count on police. We need an armed population.

Every law abiding adult should be allowed to conceal carry.

I'm on board with generous tax credits to encourage people to get training every year and funding to make sure that training is available within 1 mile of every post office.

I am open to making it impossible for certain people to get guns. I've proposed it many times.

It's just going to lead to students getting a hold of those guns and using them.

And I don’t agree. There are trained people at schools like I said and it didn’t matter. You think the shooters are gonna get background checks on which cops are pussies and if Mr Jones in social studies has a good shot or what? I’ve talked to teachers who think this is insane. Arming them. The type of person who wants to teach about Pre Algebra with a sidearm isn’t who I want teaching anyway.

More guns is not the answer. It never will be. It will only be our downfall and the downfall of of our children.

Double murder. They will shoot each other and their problems will all be solved.

I just can't imagine hearing 19 kids are murdered and feeling like, well, I should hop online and defend the second amendment. And propose more guns as the answer.

    I'm not anti-gun.

    I'll say it again, I'm not anti-gun.

But the system we have now is fucking stupid.

And proposing to add even more guns into this fucking system is even more stupid.

Guns and ammo need to be registered, identified, and traceable.

A bullet casing found on the ground needs to be able to be tracked back to a purchaser.

The rifling of every gun needs to be known and registered.

If someone fires off a gun the process of finding that person needs to be much more simplified.

We track fucking peanut butter better than we track guns and ammo.

Last month we bought Jiff from Costco. There is now a recall. Costco contacted me, told me to throw it out and next time I'm there stop at the desk for a refund. Then Smuckers, who owns Jiff contacted me via phone and is sending me a coupon for free peanut butter. Apparently, I'm now in Big Peanut Butter's database.

When you buy a used car, you know who has owned it previously and if it was in an accident. You know the history of the vehicle.

We don't know this with guns.

Gun control is not a bad thing.

Every gun needs to be registered, the rifling identified, and every bullet needs its own id number traceable back to the purchaser.

I'm related to several teachers, and not a single one of them (even the one that is conservative and teaches at a private school) said they wanted any teachers armed or to have that stress added to their day.

We need to raise the age limit for buying guns.

If that kid wasn't able to buy those guns, this could have been prevented. But Abbot and Republicans in Texas failed by making it to easy for teenagers to acquire firearms.

We need to hold parents responsible when their kids use their guns or they gift guns to their kids and they use them in such manners, like the parents of the Michigan shooter. If parents know they will be held responsible, they will be more responsible. Less of these shootings will happen.

Again more guns is not the answer. I am not anti gun. I don't agree with the idea of trying to take everyone's guns. That's just stupid. Beto O'Rourke who is saying he is going after everyone's guns in Texas if he gets elected, won't be able to do that. He may be able to ban the future sale assault rifles and offer a buyback. It's not exactly a great campaign move to say you are coming for the guns in Texas. That's probably what lost him his race against Cruz.

There is no reason to take away guns from responsible law abiding citizens.

Just common sense laws to keep them out of the hands of teenagers.

Background checks which 89% if Americans are for.

We can also do the ID restriction Phatguy suggested to stop criminals from getting guns.

    There are ways forward.

More guns is not one of them.

The issue is private sales basically make this moot. It's not as easy to do this with the 400 million guns vs the cars we have, since cars have Vin #'s, etc.

We definitely need to do something different, and "more guns!!1!" isn't it.

Automobiles are still traceable with private sales.

And yes, it's not easy. There is nothing about this that is easy.

Its frustrating that seemingly "pillars" of our society, our "laws" or just assumed right at this point in 2022 - and yes they are different as one is the 2nd Amendment and the other being Roe v Wade, in basically no time Republicans can wipe out something so significant and been around for decades, supported by so many...but there's nothing we can do about an outdated, pointless 2nd amendment from 1791. SEVENTEEN NINETY ONE. We added the 2nd amendment and the state of Vermont that year.
