More from Fischer boy: “There’s been word going around a lot of team executives since March or so about the fact that maybe OG Anunoby is unhappy in Toronto and maybe that he wants out.” “There’s enough information out there, in and around the league that there’s some type of friction about his role in Toronto this season and moving forward.” “Regardless of whether the Raptors have been interested in moving him or what have you, Portland has been repeatedly characterized to me as the team that is very much trying to go make inroads to add OG Anunoby through their trade exception to go pair him with Damian Lillard.” “For now, I just felt like it was something that was being discussed enough by people around the league. The Portland and Utah overtures is very real and that is what I had and that’s how it’s taken off today.”
If this somehow happened, this would be the smartest thing the Blazers front office has done in a long, long time. Probably since picking Lillard. How Banchero isn’t the clear #1 pick boggles me gibblets. Would be a home run to get him at #3. He has the chance to become SPECIAL. And that’s what we need whether Dame likes it or not. If only we could keep Hart and give them Simons.
Speculation is it might take Ant +7 for #3. Others think taking on Wall's contract might get it done. Who knows. (...and would hate to lose Ant) What we do know, is this team needs more talent. If you can get Banchero at #3 and then improve the SF position, this team gets better in a hurry.
Anyone tell me if we lose all our flexibility if we took on walls contract? Cause the ignorant, irrational me thinks that's stupid AF.
He could however be signed and traded to a team of his choice for a player drafted in 22 by that team though….right?
Wall is an expiring contract. We don't have the space to just take it on outright. But if we let Nurk and/or Simons walk, maybe we could do something such as trade it for Hart or a similar type of move. I can't imagine the Rockets give up enough value to the Blazers to where that cost would make sense from the Blazers end.
In theory maybe, but its never happened in the history of the NBA. First the teams would have to make those draft picks first. Any one of the new team, Ant, or the Blazers could stop the transaction from going through after the draft though. Lets say the Blazers and Houston agree to pursue this framework and make those picks for each other. Well then Ant can go sign a max contract with Detroit. Boom the deal is dead. Why would Ant agree to anything less than a max contract in such scenario? He'd have all the leverage to force Houston to grossly overpay his contract. Why would the Blazers risk picking a player at #7 for Houston if that deal has a high chance of falling apart? They would be stuck with a player they didn't want to pick, or potential other trade partners now don't want this player vs whom they would've traded for at #7. We've never seen this type of transaction done in the history of the NBA, and for good reason.
Living in this God forsaken hell that is the Houston area, I can tell you that fans here don’t want a guard. With KPJ and Green, they feel they are set. Getting to 3 could be as easy as 7, mil 25, Nas and taking Wall’s contract. If Banchero or Smith are there at 3 and they think those guys are that price better than who we can get at 7 then yay
So in other words, the Blazers and Houston have to just make the draft decisions they believe are best and that they may have to keep. If later on during the Ant contract negotiations a sign and trade could be explored and if so then the teams could discuss a 2022 draftee rights being included. But none of those types of trades can be effectively planned at the draft.
This was probably posted and I missed it, but interesting. This dork was adamant that Billups was their primary target as coach so maybe he’s right again.
In order to bring on Wall, we would have to send out $35,448,672. That's on this years salary. Bledsoe is 18.125, so we still need 17,323,672. Hart is another 12. So we'd still need 5, 323,672. Winslow and Didi would get us to that amount. So 7, hart,Winslow, didi andilwaukee 25 for 3 and wall? Yikes.
What's the benefit for the Rockets? They would be much better off leaving us out of this, keeping their #3 pick, and get that 2027 Lakers pick for Wall. Edit; So your saying Rockets effectively trade with us the #3 for #7 #36 2025 Milwaukee first and Keon? I guess its not horrible for them. I still think the consensus would be this is lopsided against Houston.
"How Banchero isn’t the clear #1 pick boggles me gibblets." It's called "3 and D". Right now Banchero is neither of those. All of the other top candidates have one or both as a skillset.
After next season, Wall is gone from Houston and Gordon has a non-guaranteed contract. Wood is a free agent. That's their summer of shopping to build around Jalen Green. If Banchero is at #3, he doesn't fit well for defensive purposes with Wood (so Wood on the block). Simons and #7 and Mil '25, instead (assuming Simons would want that during free agency). "Easier" and quicker is Bledsoe (1 year of EBEC) + Hart +7 + Mil '25 + filler + sweetener for #3 + Wall. One year of Wall's contract. Hart + MIL '25. 7 for 3. Savings this year for HOU. Easier pieces to move again. This is actually doable for both sides.
And then, even worse, sign and trade Nurkic + a future pick for OG Anunoby. Dame, Simons, OG, Banchero. Horrible.
