Yeah, he’s also the most NBA ready. His defense isn’t that bad actually. It’s the fact that he can be a little hit or miss effort wise on that side. (hello, Mathurin). Additionally, that may have to do with his conditioning/sweating issue. And he shot 50%+ from 3 in the ncaa tournament. He can shoot the ball. oh and none of the others are even in the same galaxy as him offensively. there is a reason most ppl think he has the best chance at being a superstar. but yes, he has a questionable defensive motor. Like many other top prospects who had massive offensive loads to carry.
Dame and Simons would get cooked in the backcourt. I would prefer: Dame / Hart / OG / Banchero in that scenario. I like Dame and Simons, but not together. Shrug.
Doesn’t matter anyway as I believe Hart would have to be included for salary matching purposes. But I’ve said multiple times Ant / Dame isn’t a winning combo … unless one of them (Ant) gets much, much better defensively FAST.
Yes, I don't think Nurk is going anywhere. I think in a vacuum they'd trade Nurk and some picks for Ayton, but I believe we'd have to give up a lot of our exceptions and expirings to get it done. So if Ayton isn't going to be a VERY significant improvement over Nurk you're probably better off trading for forwards.
I think given the last six seasons before this one, all of us are skeptical that two lead guards who are small and haven't shown great defense are a long term solution but I think we'll have to watch it play out and hopefully we'll be wrong.
Hart is good on defense, but Simons is better on offense, especially in the half court (like the playoffs). Hart isn't clearly better overall. Dame and Simons need a season together to see how it works. Simons is not CJ Mcdribble on either end of the floor.
#7 and #36 for #9, #20, and #25 still sounds good to me. Smith Holmgren Banchero Ivey Murray Daniels Griffin Mathurin Sharpe Sochan That’s 10 names where, outside of Griffin, I’d be fine picking between one of the last two guys out of that bunch. I don’t mind grabbing the slipping guy. I’m not a huge Murray fan, but I wouldn’t mind picking him between him and Griffin if they both slipped to #9. Unless there’s a clear favorite player that the front office has, trade down and get the extra 1sts. That way, you have 4 1sts to retool with. At that point, I’d draft two guys and trade two 1sts. Dieng Jovic Eason Duren Barlow Those are all high upside guys I’d be interested in with a second 1st. The list may expand, which is fine. I just prefer a forward or big with length. You can trade #57, the last of the 3 2022 1sts, and the MIL 1st in combination with the TPE and Bledsoe to get better at the starting forward spots.
I understand what you are saying. Think of it this way. Dame and Simons are on the court for 16 minutes. Hart plays beside each of them for 16 minutes. That's 32 for each. Of course, Dame will want more. He likes 36. 30 for each of Simons and Hart. Is there a Blazers guard besides Dame that should see the court instead of Hart or Simons? No. 15-16 minutes of Dame and Simons together. Otherwise, the Blazers play Hart at the 3 for minutes, acquire or play a lesser guard for back-up minutes, and I'm not a fan of that.
Sign and trade Simons? Okay. Sign Simons and trade him in a year? Okay. Things don't work out well for the team this year? Keep Simons and the younger ones. Trade Dame after he shows that he's completely healthy with tread on the tire? Okay. But I don't understand how Simons and Dame aren't on the court together for 15-16 minutes on the same team, with Hart in hand, and needs at forward.
Dame and Simons haven’t had a chance to try and make it work. Simons got progressively better staying in front of his man up until he got injured, and Dame’s stepped up in the playoffs, demanding to take MPJ on defense a lot of the time and had success. Surround them with other guys that are good help defenders. I’m just going to assume we get Grant and it’s a given he’s the starting SF. He’s already a lanky defender so that’s a plus, but he will probably want to get his on offense as well. So maybe a guy like Sochan to start in the Mo Harkless role (with a high likelihood of far surpassing him) would work well with the starting unit if you choose to pick him. Catch and shoot 3’s, be an instant impact on defense, and get easy dunks and layups off Nurk’s passes while cutting. Or you can just find another starting PF and stagger Dame and Simons minutes where either Dame or Simons can play with Hart/Daniels/Watford/Jalen Smith second unit. Daniels could be the secondary ball handler in a lineup with Dame, and maybe even the primary PG in a lineup with Simons. So I’d like Daniels here too. It would actually make perfect sense to play Ant as a sixth man, where it’s Dame and Hart starting at PG/SG, with Ant playing as a 30 mpg sixth man at PG/SG and Daniels playing at PG/SF. Jalen Smith just has made sense to me as a backup C. I like him more than Bamba, but Bamba at backup C would be okay too. Imo, Banchero is going to be a guy that needs the ball to thrive. Nurk doesn’t care much about scoring, but he also likes to at least touch the ball. Dame and Simons already need the ball. Is OG going to cost more than Grant? OG has the potential to be better, sure. But better at what? Scoring? He’s not substantially better than Grant to warrant giving up more than the MIL 1st with Bledoe and #57. Not interested in giving up #7 for OG whatsoever.
I couldn’t tell you tbh. Last time he played, I swear I was in high school. And I graduated high school like 8 years ago. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
What we have heard so far is that we will most likely trade the pick and that we are interested in Grant and Anunoby. Any chance we are interested in both? Or would they duplicate? They have about the same wingspan and standing reach. Anunoby weighs about 20 more pounds. Neither of them seem to be a really good rebounder. Looking at MM's favorite indicator, Anunoby has a little higher real BPM than Grant. just below Ingram. Just below him are Kuzma and Barnes. Guys with really good numbers are the two Bridges. If we did think it was a good idea to get both, how? Blazerkor? Another question: Grant had a lot higher offensive numbers before he came to Dtroit. His only number that got better by quite a bit was assist %. So this probably means he had more defensive attention there and had to pass a lot more? Interestingly enough, even though his scoring efficiency went way down with Detroit his OBpm and OTRG went up.
Convince Detroit to send Olynyk to TOR in exchange for us sending Bledsoe and 7 to DET. We'd send 36 to TOR as well. Probably not enough for TOR that way. I dunno--maybe we take Birch off their hands as well, save them a little more money.
I dunno--they get a stretch 5 and save a bunch of money. Maybe convince both teams that they're getting a sweet deal without needing to move the 7. I bet Olshey could talk 'em into it.
If all they're getting is olynk, Detroit would just keep OG for themselves. That's a terrible return for them.
I'd say there is roughly a 10% chance they keep the pick, and a 10% chance they trade it for fair value.
sad but true Even other teams’ fans are saying that Portland seems desperate and they’ll likely overpay for whatever they get in a trade. Dark times.
