    The Dyson vacuum
Western Conference Executive No. 4: If we re-draft in three to four years, he may be the guy who should have been taken higher. A 6-7 18-year-old that can play the point guard today, has a phenomenal basketball IQ and mature beyond his years. He can defend three positions. His shooting, sure, it needs work. But these kids get 250, 300 reps every single day, so his shooting will be adequate enough. He makes players around him better, and he can pass the ball. If there was a highlighted guy right now in my mind, this could be one where we should have took him and let the developmental time elapse, and we’ve got ourselves a cornerstone of our team for the next 10-12 years.

Jason Hart, Ignite Head Coach: That’s the difference with coming to Ignite and maybe going to college. If Dyson would have gone to college and gotten off to a slow start, he would have sat down on that bench for a junior or senior, and he would have gotten lost. Here, it was, (Ignite Program Director) Rod Strickland was saying, ‘We’ve got to bring it out of him.’ And the fastest way to do that was to keep him out there. I’m not taking you out. So there’s no life raft over here. It took him about two or three weeks to get used to the speed of the game. Now granted, he’s 18 years old, and he was over here from Australia by himself. So we’re talking about music, culture, living, weather, time. It just took a little time. Once he got acclimated, he took off. But I told him, ‘I’m not taking you out of the game. You make a mistake, you get tired, I’ll bring you out then. But you’ve got to fight through this.’ And it was more like the Orlando Magic and OKC — we’re going to let the young guys develop. It’s the same pattern. They’ve got to develop.

Western Conference Executive No. 2: Versatile with upside. Really covers.

G League Coach (his team played Ignite): When I saw him early, everyone was saying ‘He’s probably going to be a lottery pick, and I’m like ‘That dude? For real?’ … He struggled with his confidence early, but he improved the whole year. Every part of his game improved. Even his shooting, which, right now, is subpar. His shooting improved dramatically. He’s got great size. Seems to have a good basketball IQ. I could see that. Even when we played them, I could pick up that he had a very good basketball IQ. And the fact that he improved after such a rough start says to me, he has some toughness about him. … size, can do a little bit of everything. Passes the ball well. Looking at the tape, he’s actually shooting the ball better than Ben (Simmons), which might not be saying much. But at least he’s willing to shoot some 3s. But clearly will be in the top 15 someplace. …

Thinking about what he was like in November to now, he just moves with so much more confidence, more fluidity, more strength. He can probably guard one through four in the NBA. And even on some smaller fives, he’ll front the post, he’ll box them out, that type of thing. The big question mark is obviously the shooting piece. Just needs reps. Guys get better.

im trying to understand the rationale for taking him over Sharpe.

I don't see him having as high of a ceiling as Shaedon.

They're completely different players, but positionally, Daniels is a PG. Just because he's tall doesn't mean he can immediately swing to 3/4. I personally think Daniels at 7 is an overdraft, much like Duren at 7.

Don't those mock drafts have Sharpe already gone by the 7th pick?
    Anyway, those are mocks.
I think on Cronin's big board he has Murray at the top, then Sharpe next if either of those guys fall to the 7th pick.
Or Sharpe could be #1 on his big board of players who could be available.
I doubt he'd take Daniels over Sharpe.

a few i saw today had us taking daniels at 7 and sharpe dropping to 8. i think there's no way that is a possibility unless we take daniels and then trade him. (this was also Givony on ESPN, so it definitely made me pause).

Daniels isn’t a bad pick. His defense and passing make him a young Batum. He could easily allow Dame and Ant to play off him. But he needs to develop a shot. I would still take Sharpe though.

I'm in on Daniels. Draft him, start him at SF. Dame/Hart/Daniels/Winslow/Nurk. Rise With Us.

WeMbAnyama. And why hope for him when you can get the guy who abused him in the FIBA U19 finals:

pretty obvious you didn’t actually watch that game. Wembenyama was the best player on the court.

Incidentally, here's Hollinger's ranking of prospects:
    5: Mathurin
    6: Shaedon Sharpe
    7: Keegan Murray
    8: Jeremy Sochan
    9: Dyson Daniels
    10: Josh Minott (!)
    11: Blake Wesley (!)
    12: Jalen Duren

Here's what he says about Daniels:

Hard not to be a little tantalized by Sharpe's measurements.
7' wing span and a 49" vertical for a guy who can shoot is hard to pass up. Even if his rookie year
will be mostly on the bench. I would be surprised if he fell to 7.

Oh no, I absolutely believe that a guy who will be lucky to get drafted in the second round dominated the consensus #1 pick in the 2023 draft.

can someone explain how the GLeague Ignite season works? The showcase is different from their tour?

what comes first and is there a place where we can get the aggregate stats? nba.com only has one or the other instead of the 29 combined games.

i wanna see how daniels compares to Kuminga or Jalen Green from last yr.

He's a dark horse star in this draft and I would be fine taking him at #7 but a lot of people don't feel that way. Then do an S&T of Nurk later. You have Nurk, Keon, Hart, Bledsoe and Milwaukee 2025 as assets to trade. That's actually a decent cupboard that could get us a wing or possibly two. We might even get capspace to try and sign someone else like Miles Bridges. I think Duren is a great choice of a guy who has monster upside, it also saves us money on a position you don't want to spend a lot of money on, Center.

I think I would want Keegan, Sochen, Sharpe and Daniels over Duren as guys who might be available still at 7. I just don't think all of them are gone by 7 due to the top 3 being locks. I also think you might have to just draft Ivey if he's still on the board at 7 and look to trade him or Ant down the line or draft him and trade someone lower down for Sochan or the other wings and get an additional pick or prospect.

Sharpe outplayed in workouts, interviews poorly, hasn’t played competitively since high school. Those are the rationale

His interviews and attitude are certainly offputting. He seems really entitled. He's also only 19 so who knows. But i get it. Dyson seems so much more mature.

Looks like all the games played are listed here:
    https://basketball.realgm.com/player/Dyson-Daniels/GameLogs/151792

I'm trying to figure that out too. It looks like they play in the Showcase Cup, and after that do not play in the G-League regular season but instead do the "G League Ignite Tour" where they play other G League teams for 14-15 games.
The first 14 games are 2 exhibition games and 12 Showcase Cup games and then 15 G League Ignite Tour games.
Ignite did play a game on December 19th and it looks like in the NBA.com stats that game for some reason counted towards the G League Ignite Tour since that was 15 games.

This is from Sept 21 2021:
"NBA G League Ignite is set for 14 league contests this fall in the Showcase Cup."

"Prior to Ignite’s 14 Showcase Cup contests, the team will also play preseason exhibition games at the Iowa Wolves (Oct. 29) and Sioux Falls Skyforce (Oct. 31)."

    Date / Opponent
Friday, Oct. 29: at Iowa Wolves* preseason exhibition game
Sunday, Oct. 31: at Sioux Falls Skyforce* preseason exhibition game
Friday, Nov. 5: at South Bay Lakers
Wednesday, Nov. 10: Agua Caliente Clippers
Thursday, Nov. 11: Agua Caliente Clippers
Wednesday, Nov. 17: at South Bay Lakers
Friday, Nov. 26: at Santa Cruz Warriors
Sunday, Nov. 28: at Stockton Kings
Monday, Nov. 29: at Stockton Kings
Friday, Dec. 3: Oklahoma City Blue
Sunday, Dec. 5: Oklahoma City Blue
Monday, Dec. 13: Salt Lake City Stars
Wednesday, Dec. 15: Salt Lake City Stars
Friday, Dec. 17: at Santa Cruz Warriors
Sun., Dec. 19 – Wed., Dec. 22: at NBA G League Winter Showcase

    But .....
"Ignite will not compete in the NBA G League’s regular season, which begins after the Showcase Cup, but additional competition will be announced at a later date."
