Private Massachusetts Catholic school is EXCOMMUNICATED by local bishop for refusing to remove BLM and Pride flags after being warned both represent ideologies that 'contradict' church teaching The Nativity School of Worcester has been sanctioned by Robert J. McManus, the Bishop of the Diocese of Worcester, for their refusal to take flags down The school is the only tuition-free private middle school in the region and serves about 60 students McManus stated the two symbols represent specific agendas or ideologies [that] contradict Catholic social and moral teaching.' McManus clarified that the opposition to Black Lives Matter is in terms of the controversial organization, not the phrase itself Guillermo Creamer Jr., an openly gay alum of the school and now the chair of the Worcester Human Rights Commission, said the bishop is 'on the wrong side' A Catholic private school in Massachusetts has been excommunicated by a local bishop after ignoring orders to remove pride and BLM flags. The Nativity School of Worcester has been sanctioned by Robert J. McManus, the Bishop of the Diocese of Worcester, for their refusal to take them down. He says the facility - the only tuition-free private school in the region - cannot continue to call itself Catholic while flying in the face of key church teachings. The school, run by Principal Emily Kent is the only tuition-free private middle school in the region and serves about 60 students. It took McManus over a year to respond to the school flying the two flags in front of the campus, stating the two symbols represent specific agendas or ideologies [that] contradict Catholic social and moral teaching.' The objection to the pride flag is over rules regarding same sex marriage in Catholic teaching, with the church saying that being gay itself isn't a sin - but that gay relationships are. McManus also clarified that the opposition to Black Lives Matter is in terms of the controversial organization, not the anti-racist sentiment behind the slogan. https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/ar...c-students-refuse-remove-Pride-BLM-flags.html
As someone who grew up going to an Episcopalian church across the street from a Farrell’s this is ridiculous!
As someone who pays thousands of dollars a year to send his kids to a private school, a tuition-free private school is ridiculous!
As someone who worked at Farrell's Ice Cream parlor across the street from the Episcopalian church this is ridiculous!
As someone that likes to pretend he is a detective this is not likely the reason, I suspect the school is not willing to provide kids for the priest's pleasure. #BAM
As someone whose childhood church welcomed gays into the congregation, had a gay vicar, a divorced female vicar and a married vicar (all of which at the time was considered scandalous) and said church (of which I no longer go to, belong to or care about) currently HAS a gay pride flag and a BLM flag on it, I find this incredibly ridiculous.
I thought the church had purged itself of the old, cranky, uptight, pedantic, ignorant asshole priests and bishops by now. Especially the old white guys. Apparently this guy crawled out from the same rock as today's Republican Party. If this jackwad REALLY thinks support for BLM and LGBT+ is "contradictory to church teaching", then he too needs to go back and reread his bible. What a frickin' idiot. I'm no longer a practicing Catholic (due in part to self important clowns like this guy) but it still embarrasses me. Ignorance and intolerance by Catholic clergy utterly shits all over the good things that this particular faith actually DOES do. Hopefully (unlikely), there's a Cardinal out there that will do the right thing and send this bishop into retirement (though excommunication for missing the entire purpose of his vows would be more appropriate).
RI dismisses drunk driving charges against Worcester's bishop McManus WORCESTER — A drunken driving charge against Bishop Robert J. McManus was dismissed Tuesday in Rhode Island, a month after he was arrested following a hit-and-run accident near his Narragansett, R.I., vacation home. Bishop McManus was not present for the dismissal in Wakefield District Court, which was part of a May 14 agreement in traffic court in which he admitted to refusing a chemical test, said his lawyer, William J. Murphy. Such an agreement is common practice for a first-time offender. At the traffic court, Bishop McManus pleaded guilty to the refusal charge, which resulted in a six-month loss of license, 10 hours of community service, mandatory DUI education charges and a $945 fine. "The bishop is sorry; he's remorseful," Mr. Murphy said. "This was abhorrent behavior on his part and he apologizes to the people of the diocese and the people of Massachusetts and Rhode Island." Bishop McManus was arraigned last month on the drunken driving charge after he was in a hit-and-run accident with a 2008 Hyundai about two miles from his vacation home. https://www.telegram.com/story/news...-dismisses-drunk-driving-charges/45743560007/
Pope Francis tells couples not to have sex before marriage in Vatican guide that argues 'chastity teaches the timing and the method of true love' In a Vatican guide Pope Francis wrote unmarried couples are not to have sex He argued 'chastity teaches the timing and the method of true love' in preface And modern unions 'fall apart' quickly and couples helped by no sexual pressure https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/ar...x-marriage-Vatican-guide-argues-chastity.html
Just another old white guy lacking in self awareness.........and IMHO, the lack of a "test drive" before marriage probably is a serious factor in many divorces.......
I always enjoy celibate men providing marriage and sex advice. It's akin to organizations that protect sex offender child molesters commenting on gay relations and morality.
