The Mavs could afford a weak defender like him because they had one of the league's best defenses. Portland can't afford bad defenders right now. I agree that Wood was a nice pickup for them. He just wouldn't have been good for us.

I will always take the best player in any deal. It's why I would have traded 3/5 of our starting lineup for Barkley when we had the chance.

They can find another PF via another trade elsewhere. Good players are available for pennies all the time.

If Sharpe is there, you take him and see what you have with him, Simons and Little. See what works and what doesn't. Maybe Damian isn't working. We don't know. But when you have a chance at a true star, you don't give him away because of fit. We already have a starting SF anyways with Little. We're only missing a starting PF. I believe he can be found with other tools that don't sacrifice your lottery pick.

I don't disagree. But he has talent and would be one of our top talents on a team devoid of much talent. He was had for cheap.

Wiggins was thought of as a bad fit for GSW too.

I'm willing to take chances on guys that are bad fits if they cost is low enough as long as they have talent. We don't have a ton of assets to improve.

The other idea I was thinking about was what if the rumor about Dort and 12 for 7 is true and we take Sochan at 12 with the plan to sign and trade Ant for Grant when free agency opens. Some of you might not love that but Dame, Dort, Grant, Sochan, Nurk, Hart, Nas and Justise would be a brutal defense to play against and I think would have the offensive firepower to make a go of it. Some might think that Ant for Grant would be like Jermaine for Dale but Jermaine and I wouldn't trade Ant for Grant in a normal trade but in a S&T situation I don't know if we could ask for more. Also I just love how many guys out of those eight are just dawgs on defense and hopefully we would add one more big to that mix.

We're trading our budding superstar for a guy with a year left on his contract and we don't even have bird rights on him? That's not the move. At all.

We would have to have an extension worked out with Grant before we pulled the trigger.

Not opposed to trading Ant, but we have the maximize the value of the asset. Which trading him for Grant would not do.

If Ant truly is the real deal, you have to resign him and let him play the first part of the year. If he continues the breakout and shows he’s an all star talent, then you have more leverage at the trade deadline. You can easily get a better player than Grant for a 22 year old all star level player. That puts you in a place to get a player like OG + extras, or Miles Bridges, or someone else much better than Grant.

But who is the second star when teams inevitably double Dame?

People have started to think Dame really is superman now and can get it done by himself. How did that work for Doncic? And Doncic is a better player than Dame.

We need another star. Point blank. Or move on from Dame. Going for good role players is just going to delay the inevitable and waste time.

Grant would need to be and has been that outlet before but in Chauncey's system I think it will be less of a problem.

Nah, both are below average perimeter defenders. Screenshot_20220621-044931_Sheets.jpg

Sign and trading Ant for Grant would be dumber than anything Olshey ever did in his time here.

    Shaedon Sharpe
    Kentucky
    SG
    Age: 19.0

Sharpe's standing has solidified with some outstanding showings in competitive private workouts -- his performances have improved with every visit and he has demonstrated significantly more fire than teams expected from the intel they gathered on Sharpe coming out of Kentucky. Damian Lillard is said to be high on Sharpe's talent, despite Sharpe being 12 years younger and seemingly on a completely different timetable from Lillard. Sharpe is clearly oozing with natural ability, possessing elite physical tools with his exceptional frame, length and explosiveness, to go along with dynamic perimeter shooting ability. There was a reason he was the No. 1-ranked player in his high school class, but his lack of experience and how little he has been evaluated might make it difficult for a team picking higher than this to roll the dice on him.

    Dyson Daniels | 6-7 wing | 19 years old | G League Ignite

Daniels gives the Blazers something they lack on the perimeter: a glue guy who defends at a high level and does all of the little things while also being an elite defender. Daniels came in at the combine between 6-foot-7 and 6-foot-8 and would be a terrific complement to both Damian Lillard and Anfernee Simons, assuming the latter is re-signed this offseason following his breakout 2022 season. Daniels passes really well and generally makes life much easier for his teammates with his unselfishness, his balance and his passing and playmaking.

Almost sounds like Pippens draft bio. Not saying hes Pippen but I see a lot of similar attributes. I’m 110% on board keeping this kid if we draft him.

That is not the first time I've heard someone mention he was somewhat Pippen-esque.
Interesting that Dame would be okay with 'waiting' on Sharpe. If that is the case, they must have some level of confidence they are going to be able to get other things done with EBEC, the TPE and the MLE.

Honestly Barnes is probably a better player than Grant. And possibly cheaper too.

Less than a week ago, Givony said Sharpe did not set himself apart in workouts v Dyson and Mathurin in Detroit.

How does one go from that to "outstanding" in less than a week? Was his showing in Portland that awesome?

I'm skeptical about the veracity of this new report.
