hopefully the former. One thing that would support that is he went to all the workouts. If he was dead set on pressuring Cronin to trade the pick for someone you’d think he wouldn’t be interested in attending the workouts.

I think as much as some in here want the team to take a big swing at a prospect at 7 this is most likely our front office publicly telling the rest of the league, "If the offers don't get better we'll pick someone and keep them." I also think it's just a bluff and we will trade that pick hopefully to acquire an established starting forward and a later pick that we can still use to swing for the fences. There will be guys drafted far after pick 7 that have huge unknowable upsides like Dieng and Jovic and for sure players I'm unaware of or underestimating.

Sharpe cancelled his workout with the Pels after this workout with the Blazers….

If we’re using the pick and Sharpe is there, I think we take him.

Sharpe cancelled workouts after his workout with the Blazers, and Duren supposedly hasn't done another workout since.
How will we look in 3 years with Duren/???/Nas/Sharpe/Ant? :biglaugh:

he still worked out with Indiana yesterday, but he seems to know he’s not dropping further than 7

This is good news if true. Hopefully he isn't taken before 7.

he prolly also realizes it's not a big deal if Sharpe gets the right coaching/reps early on.

#7 pick is pretty iffy. If you can get a Collins or Anunoby who are both only 24 and already established as good NBA players, I think you do it. Grant is 28.

Collins' perimiter defense is not good. He's a good player with upside but I don't see the fit. Scouts are calling Sharpe "Anthony Edwards with a jumper." Wanna give that away for a guy like Collins?

Why not? Sharp-shooter Edwards is nothing compared to rich man's Kuzma.

I have seen pretty much all the film for Sharpe on Youtube. I don't see him being as explosive as Edwards. He's also more of a chucker at the moment.

I think his comps are probably the ones I estimate have the highest variance.

    Best case: Brad Beal
    Worst case: Malik Monk

Really hope we did the right mental evals because that's prolly what it will come down to.

Beal with his size and length wouldn't be bad.

he's probably not as good of a playmaker. but i see him creating the same kinda elevation, and ability to get his shot off high because of his freakishly long arms.

You're probably right about his perimeter defense, but overall he has improved; he could play center 15 minutes a game whenever Nurk was out.
"When Collins entered the league, his defense was a cause for concern. That is no longer the case. Despite being undersized, occasionally playing the 5, and always playing cleanup for perimeter players, Collins is reliable on defense.

This season, Collins increased his defensive rebounds, steals, and held steady at one block per game. According to most advanced states, including FiveThirtyEight's RAPTOR rating, only Clint Capela and Delon Wright were better defenders this season.

Collins is capable of playing defense without fouling while still providing adequate rim protection. Couple that with his switchability, and it makes him an integral part of the Hawks' defense."

The key word there is "good." The Blazers, to make a difference, don't need more "good."

Collins by essentially every metric is the best player among the names being floated around as trade targets. Is he the best fit though? Probably; we don’t have a floor spacing four on the roster that can also play the pick and roll. The metrics defensively look encouraging (I haven’t seen him enough to really comment on it’s validity) so I guess it comes down to whether or not you believe he can take another step under Billups.

The unknown is always very intriguing ie the potential of guys like Sharpe, Daniels, etc, but so is the level of risk. I like the idea of Collins and OG more than say Grant, because those guys are younger and seemingly still have untapped potential. Interesting dilemma, but either way they go, they can’t afford to miss.

Which is interesting considering they're trying to trade him desperately at only age 24. I like him. I just don't like him enough for us or for what's likely to be there at #7.
