Isiah Rider was a beast. Just a few lightbulbs short upstairs.
I remember one play that showed what he could do if motivated.
He took a midrange jumpshot that bounced off the rim down the left baseline. There were other players in the area, but Rider raced over to grab the rebound, dribbled to the hoop and slammed down a ferocious dunk.
Kind of reminiscent of how Lebron plays sometimes.

Yup, Sharpe has the physical tools. It is now a question of brainpower and willingness to grind.

"My only fear with him would be not getting the playing time to develop sooner than later."

This is my fear too. I think it is much more likely that he'll get underplayed instead of overplayed. I don't think it's even possible to overplay him ( from the standpoint of his development).
He should definitely get playing time even if he doesn't "deserve it."
Look at Drazen Petrovic and Jermaine O'Neal.
Especially O'Neal. He was with the team for 4 seasons and obviously the Blazers had no clue what he would become. Why didn't they know? Not enough playing time.

I think being a high lotto pick, we’ll probably be put in a position where we’ll be pressured to give him minutes and I’m all for that. I’m hoping to get enough to Sharpe to decide on Hart’s future with the team.

It's like Paul Allen picked him via seance.

I hope he'll be great, but all the yellow flags around how he came to the draft in the first place make me a little uncomfortable about him.

Before his knee injury in 1998, he was amazing. And weed is legal now so no worries there!

Zach Randolph would be out of business in todays day and age.

I dunno, young Zach who was the ultimate tip-in garbage man would still do well, but starter-era Zach? Yeah he would be out of the league.

I honestly think this will be a non issue. College guys try to gain the system all the time. We drafted a guy in Simons who decided to forego college before, not sure why fans of this team specifically would be worried about betting on high school talent.

Jalen Johnson got the same kind of criticisms last year. I wish there was a buy low opportunity on him with Atlanta.

He’s the anti-Damian Lillard. Dame went to college for four years, Sharpe went for four minutes.

It's so weird that people are already saying he's untouchable, that they'd be sad if he didn't get minutes right out of the gate, and will be upset if he's not part of the rotation by the end of the year.

Dude hasnt played a competitive game since high school.

I want him to succeed and think he will but holy hell have some perspective and patience.

I'm going with the law of averages, which say the #7 pick will be a solid starter. There are reasons to believe he can be an all-star. There can also be a case to be made that he'll flame out.

I agree. That's Sharpe's advantage compared to O'Neal and Petrovic. Plus, those teams were actual contenders, not a team trying to be a contender. Also, it seems Sharpe is one of the pieces needed to be a contender.

The rules on anything more than being 18 years old are BS anyway. If you can join the military at age 17, you should be able to play professionally any sport you choose.

Patience means letting him work through his struggles. Not playing him means you're impatient.

Ant is also the anti-Damian Lillard. We need to stop pretending like every player is in a position to go from HS to the NBA.

In an interview together right after being drafted, Roy and Aldridge talked about how they put their name in the draft when HS players were still allowed to and both ultimately withdrew and went to college. Aldridge was not going to go #2 in the draft had he gone to the NBA right out of HS and Roy doesn’t become the creator he became after three years in Washington to be drafted #6 that year.

Some players need it and some players don’t. Sharpe is ultra athletic with a potentially scary offensive game already. When I watch Sharpe’s HS clips, I immediately feel like I was watching Michael Porter Jr’s HS highlights again. If there’s no prior injury history and the questions on his maturity are inconsequential at best, you have to bet on an offensive talent like this.

The marijuana Zach Randolph would not be able to compete with dispensaries.
