Thats a great graph. Yes rookie contracts provide the most value. KD and LeBron provide the least from this group. I've wondered that with the KD trade speculation, I'm not sure how much value he will really provide to a team that acquires him, plus the age and injury history.

This would be even more important if there was always a strict hard cap, but with Warriors/Clippers/Nets/etc paying so much tax they don't need the best value per win.

Warriors might look very different if they couldn't outspend all the other teams. They'd probably have to remove two of Wiggins/Draymond/Klay.

Careful slamming KD on the basis of this chart until you see where Dame falls.
Plus, Jokic just got the largest contract in NBA history...

I'm assuming this was last season so where Dame 'fell' doesn't mean much. This e-wins stat...not sure how it's derived, but for Dame:

    2018 - 17.4
    2019 - 16.7
    2020 - 16.1 (adjusted to 82 games)
    2021 - 16.7 (adjusted to 82 games)

so, an average of 16.73 over those 4 seasons. That average would rank 3rd on that chart behind Jokic and Embiid, but ahead of Giannis, Curry, and Tatum

I would have compared 4 season stretches for the other top players but they are hidden behind yet another paywall

when are payroll numbers considered for tax purposes? is it at the end of the season?

we are about 3.5 mil above the tax line right now if we waive Bledsoe's 3.9 mil (and no contract yet for Walker). I think we need to contextualize any additions to the roster with tax implications. Adding Roby would mean we would have to get rid of Keon/Didi eventually to duck under. It seems that is a priority now for this poverty franchise.

It's at the last day of the regular season.

so we'd still have time to get off contracts if ducking tax is indeed is a goal. bring on roby!

wonder how high we are on the waiver list.

It's reverse standings. The worst team has highest priority.
Portland is essentially 5th in line (since OKC cut him). Houston, Orlando, Detroit, & Indiana are the only ones who can claim him first. (assuming Portland submits a claim).

Orlando has a ton of forwards already, but I think the other teams could claim him ahead of us.

    oh come on.

So we didn't even bother putting a claim in.

Trying to understand how this is not purely financial.

From strictly watching his highlights, I thought Roby looked a little slow to cover the perimeter and a little small to play center.
    Good shooter though.

Everything I've read made it sounds like his defense was trash. He has a positive DBPM, but I dunno. Thought he'd make an intriguing flyer.

was just a 1.9 mil caphit. woulda added size to our woefully short front court.

he's better than all our backup bigs.

if you look at wings, he's better than didi (1.5 mil) and keon (2.7 mil). arguable he's better than nas (4.1 mil).

writing is on the wall for our motives this summer : duck the tax.

I doubt Nas would have been waived by OKC so they can get down to 19.
Roby may be better than what we have on the bench at C/PF, but he is still not good enough.
Let's hold out until at least after summer league. See if there are any surpises

Yeah, I can't debate this until I see Roby play a few games. I just know I like Nas and Roby did not impress Presti enough to kep from getting waived. Somehow I am not too upset over losing out on him. Maybe Chauncey wants someone more athletic?
