They thought him moving here would ruin his life and they were scared of visiting. Until they came here and realized its not as different as they assumed it would be. Different, but not lawlessness everywhere.

It take real leadership to bring a major sport to a city, like Blazers. There hasn't been that kind of leadership in this town since Glickman.
If baseball comes here it will be because of leadership from Wilsonville, Beaverton, Beavercreek, etc.

I'd love baseball in Portland, but after years and years of semi-optimistic chatter, the movement just seems to lack energy...

And Portland can't even take care of itself. I support BLM and I supported the protests. I fought the silly national media narrative, told my southern aunts and uncles and cousins and friends overseas that the depiction of our streets were overblown and inaccurate.

But I stand corrected to a degree. This city has lost its luster. The camps and graffiti and trash just never went away...

" A once clean, proud city finds itself in the shadow of violent unrest and a homeless crisis."

Description of a 2020 video on YouTube about a particular city. It wasn't Portland.
The title of the documentary was DENVER IN DECAY.

It's gonna take a citywide effort to get our city back to where it should be. But we all have to do our part. Cleaning up trash, and not littering. Looking out for your neighbors. The city has to prosecute those who engage as houligans, and spread graffiti. Put these idiots on labor forces to paint over the graffiti, and pick up garbage. Commission artist to paint murals on large walls. The beautification will take some time but it can happen. Once that happens, the Ownership group can proceed with getting a MLB franchise. But they have to do their part too. They can't have a fly by night financing plan to build that beautiful stadium north of the Fremont Bridge. They have to be ready to go, and go Hard. I want to see it happen. That area north of the bridge is pretty nice, and would be great. I am all for protest, but the real protesters need to do their part too , by not allowing these houligans to hijack what their protesting, as a means to be an idiot.

I think it starts with electing smarter people to run the city. Tough love is sorely needed.

    Exactly..
There was one woman on the recent ballot who dedicated her entire platform to addressing the homeless crisis..
She was very serious about it.
I voted for her because of it.
    She came in 4th.

Politicians are a lot like Athletes. You see the potential, but if they don't break through, you have to start over. The sad thing is politics became a career, instead of serving the community and moving on. It's about that power, instead of what, and how, can i get these tasks done. At least , it seems, you can make change immediately at the local level. Nat'l level Fagettaboutit.

The number one objective of most politicians is to be re-elected, and that goal does not always align with what’s best for their constituents. My opinion has always been that politics should not be a career. Because it is a career, people will do and or say whatever they need to in order to still have a job. It would be like going to a job interview and answering their bullshit questions honestly. Nobody does it.

On this, we totally agree. 4 years, and move on. If you're a mayor, move on to be a representative, senator, or governor. Then on and on. No static positions.

There needs to be some kind of urgency to get elected and then get stuff done. Tired of these fuckers spending four years doing nothing.

I want baseball here more than most but I've always been cynical. Mainly because they wanted to sell merch before even securing a damn thing.

Drove by the Front St. parcel where the stadium is to go if we get the team, while on a delivery. Man!, it would be so cool to have that awesome edifice, and surrounding development there. I'd for sure go and support them. Fingers crossed .
