That was a great interview....I listened to Wheels interview the Mike's together about a year after they were fired and it was a great interview as well. Barrett hasn't watched, followed any Blazer basketball since he was let go...Rice never stopped being a Blazer fan ....he still talks about current Blazer news in interviews. I think Barrett and Hurd would've been an excellent team. I understand he's a big part of the group trying to bring MLB to Portland. Steve Snapper Jones is a tough act to follow. Jordan Kent to me always sounded like a bad actor trying to remember his lines.
I will say this about the Mike's. After a game, my then 12ish daughter took a shirt down and they both took the time to chat with her and autograph her shirt. It was one of their Mike and Mike shirts. She was delighted. Of course they laughed when they asked where she got it, and she told them someone had found it at goodwill and bought it for her. I don't know how Hurd and Calabro are, but the Mikes always made time for the fans.
Mike Barrett sometimes likes Instagram posts by Donald Trump jr. That makes me automatically dislike him
not sure what your point is. I was disagreeing with the idea that players pay much attention to ownership when deciding where they want to play. That idea was brought up by Barrett and appears to be false.
The whole spin of "Paul Allen is the reason" why FA's don't sign here, sounds like a combo of sour grapes and also a way for the host to suck up to MB, who had earlier said that it was basically PA who had fired him.
Watched Calabro do an early round playoff game or two, this year for NBATV and thought he was fantastic, which is interesting because I cannot stand him on Blazer broadcasts. He, and I can't put my finger on it, just doesn't "feel" right, on the local scene. I do like Hurd, in fact, wouldn't be surprised if he gets a national offer someday. I believe KC is under contract for two more years.
I've heard Calabro us the Supersonics. That should be a fireable offense. If he is signed for 2 more years, that is 2 more years I wont be watching them on tv. Radio it is.
Rice was by way of being a friend so I am biased. Any friend of a Trump is no friend of mine. Reportedly Dame had a very warm relationship with Paul Allen.
I'm surprised so many people feel this way. I liked Mike & Mike and I get the homer aspect of it all, but those guys aren't national talens like Calabro, for a reason. Would love to see Barrett get this MLB-PDX thing off the ground and I don't even watch baseball.
Very interesting interview and I was never a big Mike and Mike fan. Barrett was way too much of a homer and Rice had his funny moments but overall felt very small time as a duo. I really enjoy Calabro and Hurd has grown on me. I get that people hate on KC because he's Mr. Seattle, but he's light years ahead of MB as an announcer. Don't get me started on Kent, that guy was HORRIBLE as a studio host and even worse on the broadcasts. As for this interview though MB was pretty candid and I enjoyed the listen. Never really heard the part about KC/SD, but I don't give any credence to the interviewer's comments about PA. I'll listen to part 2 of this interview but that will be the last time I click on the podcast as the interviewee was much more interesting than the interviewers.
I was never a big M&M fan (professionally; I don't know if they're nice and good and all that stuff as humans). Calabro is big time and has an iconic voice. I love that he calls Blazers game. Hurd... meh. It feels like he gets overwhelmed by Calabro's presence and he feels like a guy who's the color commentator because he's from the area, rather than because he's the best guy
He's from Texas (but I do get your point about Lamar). Btw, how the hell is Lamar almost 40?? I swear he was in college not that long ago.
I just assumed he stayed in Oregon after he started attending Oregon State, which was 20 years ago. (Hence him being 40 ) I might be wrong and maybe he lived elsewhere after college.
